The last time I asked about the cost of Greene County marriage certificates there must have been 50 answers. The information was great. Thanks Ray Goodwin Shingle Springs, CA

    3. Well, Family Discovery is back at it. These two kids from Cedar Rapids Iowa are charging $43.00 to 59.00 for "unlimited access to their website. The only problem is that their website is a conglomoration of OTHER PEOPLE'S research. They put all the links they can find on their site - even linking to other peoples personal web pages. Further, most of their data "cells" are empty. They claim to have census, marriage, land records, etc., and they do . . . kind of . . . For example, for Illinois, all they have are: A link for marriage, cemetery and death records (which doesn't work) A link for Civil War regiments - which takes you to the Illinois Civil War Project Civil War regiment nicknames - which takes you to the Illinois Civil War Project Casualty lists for the Korean and Viet Nam war - which takes you to NARA records. If you're even tempted to buy this service, you may want to take a look here: http://www.familydiscovery.com/members/

    1. Re: Public Land sale information
    2. Not long ago I purchased the land entry application and warrant. I found very little information that was helpful in my family search. The basic questions were, Are you married? Do you have children? The names were not on the application just the number of children. Where were you born? That was all the family information that was on the application and warrant. I found when I went back to the regisrar of deeds office that i found more informaiton from there. In my case, the family member had died and it gave the names of the family members since two sisters and two brothers were involved with the land. Hope this helps Avie

    3. I had not thought about purchasing a warrant. Both Samuel P and Thomas G were born after the War of 1812. Thomas was the Deputy sherriff at the time, so I was wondering if that might have something to do with it. Thanks Kent
