In our information we only have a Thomas P Caudle who married Hester. Who is the father of this Thomas P Caudle. I will be happy to share what i have, but will need your mailing address as my scanner is not working. Thanks for the info. Avie
Avie - I believe the Pleasant Caudle, sister of William is the daughtr of Thomas Caudle and Margaret Unknown. After Margaret died Thomas married Naomi Smith Weddle. Mary E. and Sarah A. were other siblings. Naomi Smith Weddle is my line and I imagine she raised those children, but I can't find any more about them. Naomi died in Idaho so perhaps they all went there. Would be interested in any information you might have on this Caudle family. I have a question about the Hickory Grove mentioned in your E-mail from the PECK'S GAZTLEER OF 1834. The Hickory Grove that I am familar with is the Hickory Grove cemetery and church near Wright IL in Greene Co. founded in 1830. This church and cemetery is north and east of Carrollton. I was wondering if there was two such designated places in Greene Co. just a question. The history of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church states that twenty people met to organize a church and wrote up their Principles of Failth and Rules of Decorum on January 30, 1830. Location of where they met is not given until the first Sat. in July 1830 when they met at Thomas Lee's. At this meeting they constituted into a church known as the Hickory Grove Church of Christ. C. I appreciate your sharing that information! It makes the flat plane of the map come alive--especially descriptive for that early time. Thank you for sharing with us. Jan in California

According to the 1879 History of Green County: "Wilmington is situated in Township12, Range 12 in the Northwestern precinct, in the northwestern portion of the county and was laid out in 1836 on the 18th day of May by Lucius S. Norton, Thomas Groce, Thomas Hanks, Young, Henderson, Lane, and Highee. It is six miles from the Illinois River and one and a half miles north of Drake Satation on the Louisiana branch of the C. & A. R. R.. John Coates (the father of eight sons and two daughters, all of whom still live in the county, except Chester, who resides in Scott County), was among the early settlers in this section, and was one of the largest money lenders in the county. He was killed in 1874, be being knocked from the railraod track by an engine." This is present day Patterson Twp., I believe. Patterson Cemetery is aka Wilmington Cemetery. Elaine You show a Richard Batty as the son of Elizabeth Baines and William Batty. Do you have the next generation for Richard Batty? We have an Ira E. Jeannette and Allen, Thanks so much for all the information. My, my, that Solomon sounds like he was quite a character. There is a Caroline S. Baines buried in Belltown Cemetery, Greene Co., Illinois, who is listed as "wife of Solomon" Do you think she could be one of Solomon's wives? It lists her birthdate as 28 Sept 1815 and death as 6 May 1857 and says "Our Mother" on tombstone. Below is the list of a couple generations of descendants for Robert Baines. I've listed them so that the info might help you. Sorry, I don't have a Hannah Baines in my file. Descendants of Robert Baines: 1 Robert Baines b: 1773 in England d: December 24, 1848 .. +Margaret A. The Solomon Baines (1805-1883) who was killed hopping a freight in 1883 was the son of Robert Baines (1773-1848). I don't think the Solomon Baines (1857-1909) who was the son of Charles Baines Jr. (1798-1856) and Jane Townsend Milnes Baines (1819-1896) had any children, since neither a wife nor children were mentioned in his obituary. I don't do much work on the Baines family since I'm not sure how I'm related. Robert Baines might have been a uncle/brother/cousin of my ancestor Hannah Baines Meek. I started working on the Baines family a bit, but gave up at the colorful Solomon Baines (1805-1883) who had 28 children & I don't know how many wives, but he married his last wife twice (Rachel F. Jones). She divorced him & he declared that he would not support her or their children, so she promptly married him again. If you ever figure out the family, let me know.
