Hi...I'm new to this list and of course looking for infomation. My connection to Gallatin County is James Washington Hays. JW bought land in Shawneetown in 1843. Would this be Gallatin County at that time? James Washington Hays married Margaret Bodine in Jefferson County, 1840. 1841 son, John Marion Hays was born. 1843 James Washington Hays purchases 80 acres in Shawneetown. 1853 Margaret Bodine Hays married James A. McRight (various spellings) James Washington Hays seems to now be lost. I can find no evidence of him from 1843 at the time of the land purchase.
