Your original e-mail compares the Old Slave House to Auschwitz not slavery to Nazism. Both were horrible, but the old Slave House is a minor, minor, minor part of the whole realm of US slavery. Auschwitz was a major part of the Holocaust. Excuse me? I don't think this calls for personal attacks! If I can't voice my opinion on this subject..what makes you think you have a right to? Yes Rose..since you had ancestors in this house..I guess you wouldn't want it destroyed. Maybe you should take care of this "wonderful" old Historic place. Surely you don't surmise that a "Slave House" would have been anything other than what the name of it implies! You and Cody need to re-read your previous messages..sounds like you are talking out of both sides of your mouth. Your former messages sounded to me like you didn't like the subject either. As for the Delete button..thanx for the advice..I have already used it on your messages. I will be Unsubscribing from this"whatever" list this is..I know you will miss me. Hello people! This is getting irrational. The purpose of this list is to discuss Gallatin County history and genealogy, not Ausschwitz. While the slave house might be a touchy issue for some it can still be discussed in a rational manner. I would like to assume that we are all adults on this list. Flames are uncalled for. If someone has a dissenting point of view they should present it in a rational manner, citing their sources. The fact that Timothy Guard, who also had a salt lease, is listed in one census as being the largest slave holder in Gallatin Co is a part of history. He sits prominently on my family tree, along with all the ordinary John Doe's, and the scalliwags and scoundrels. What those folks did or didn't do does not affect who I am today. Just as some food for thought. I'm always grateful for the scalliwags and scoundrels I dig up....they are the only one's who left a good paper trail. Ordinary John Doe just didn't leave much of a record. <grin> Ginger gingerh@shawneelink.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lundblad Jeff" <LundbladJ@oceusa.com> To: <ILGALLAT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2002 8:47 AM Subject: RE: Naming Names? > Your original e-mail compares the Old Slave House to Auschwitz not slavery > to Nazism.
