Margaret L.Bambie, According to the rules posted last night the only subjects that will be discussed on this list are to apply to Gallatin County, Illinois. I don't know how there could have been 150 messages about the discussion of the slave house (to delete) when there haven't been that many messages posted for the month of March. Why is it not ok to discuss the history of a house (of great historical interest) -situated in Gallatin County- on this list, but it be ok for you to use foul language in disguise? Alan Moore posted a message today that sounds fair and reasonable. If I can ring in here as a historian, we can have arguments (read discussion) over facts and principles if we all remember the concept of academic freedom. We simply need to agree to disagree, and after the point is made cease and desist. The information on the Crenshaw house is avaluable piece of local history, accomapnied by folklore and rumor. The job of the historian is to weed out the difference between rumor, folklore and fact, and get to what happened while ALWAYS remembering that different times held different moral values. Alan Moore Why is this?
