    3. Dear Jon, I want to tell you that I have received my copy of the Handbook of Old Gallatin Co. and have been enjoying it very much. There are a lot of useful references there, also, it is nice gaining a little knowledge of the life and times of Gallatin Co when it was first being developed. You mentioned Allen DUGGER in the book as being one of the early settlers of the Bear Creek/Omaha area. This is true, but Allen came along with his parents Dread and Milly (BRUCE) DUGGER who had sold their property in Sumner Co TN . They sold their holdings in Sumner Co TN and arrived in Bear Creek sometime between 1829 and 1832. One of Dread and Milly's sons had come through earlier with one of Dread's brothers and no doubt returned with stories about the area that encouraged them to leave Sumner Co. Dread's older sister, Sarah DUGGER, was married to Charles EDWARDS and they moved at the same time, perhaps even a bit earlier. There are still EDWARDS descendants in the Omaha area. Allen apparently dabbled in real estate as well as being a farmer. I believe he could read and write and he utilized these skills in Bear Creek. He was one of the elders of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in starting up the church in Omaha, as you mentioned. He was married to Susan LOONEY in Sumner Co TN and they did not have any children. Allen was killed in 1860 when a dead tree which he was chopping down fell on him and crushed him. Susan remarried a few years later to Hezekiah GREGG. Allen is buried in Palestine Cemetery #1 beside his niece, Parnecia Delitha DUGGER. Dread and Milly BRUCE DUGGER are buried in the wildly overgrown West-Edwards Cemetery on the Gallatin/White Co border north of Omaha, as are Sarah and Charles EDWARDS, and another son, Hardy C. DUGGER and his baby daughter Lucy DUGGER,and other grandchildren of Dread and Milly. Milly BRUCE DUGGER was a sister and cousin to most of the other BRUCE families that moved to Gallatin and White Counties. The Walker BRUCE ,who was the first person buried in Palestine Cemetery #1 (according to legend), was Milly's brother. We have been unable to find anyone who can tell us WHEN Walker was buried or any details about his demise. If anyone knows, we'd be very interested in a little more history about Walker and his descendants! It is pretty tantalizing that he was said to be the first person buried in Palestine #1 and not have any idea of when that was! Again, thank you for the interesting book. I am enjoying it very much. Sincerely, Carol Dugger RESEARCHING: DUGGER, BRUCE, EDWARDS, PRITCHETT, along with their collateral families BLAIR,BOYD,YATES,TARRANT, DAVIS,EUBANKS
