Hi- Decided I've been lurking long enough on this list! <G> For years, I've been researching my 3-gr-grandmother, Jerusah or Jerusha HANCOCK. She was married on 24 December 1833 in Equality to Moses Dale SHIRLEY of Mcleansboro, Hamilton, IL. I've never been able to prove Jerusah's parentage one way or another; a paper that my great- grandmother wrote says that Jerusah "was the daughter of Moses HANCOCK and a DALE from Tennessee". This same paper says that Jerusah was raised in Gallatin Co., and that her grandfather was a Tatem HANCOCK of Gallatin Co. A distant cousin says this is incorrect, and that Jerusah's grandfather, who actually raised her, was Bennet HANCOCK. Bennet died in Gallatin County in the early 1830s. Bennet's will from Gallatin Co. does not mention Jerusah or Moses. I have been able to locate a few records on Bennet: his Revolutionary War service records from the VA. militia; a record of his first marriage, to a Mary BRYAN, in 1756 in VA., etc. However, I've not found a thing about Moses, or of Jerusah's life before her marriage certificate..... Is any of this familiar to anyone on the list? Are any of these people listed in either of Glen Minor's books? Sure hope we can make a connection!!! Thanks so much - Skip in MN
