Hi All I am searching for information on my gggrandparents. They were John and Mary Mayfield. The first info I got said they were in Shawneetown, but I recently learned that they lived in Equality. They show up in the 1860 census of Gallatin CO, IL and it lists John as being 32 (1828) from TN. It shows a daughter Catherine born in AR, then Amelia Jane born 1852, James David born 1856, Thomas Rueben born 1859. They are believed to have been born in Gallatin Co, IL. Rueben is my ggrandfather. It is said that they moved to Stoddard Co MO., Butler Co MO., then to Poinsett Co., AR. They lived in Poinsett Co., relatives still live there. Thomas Rueben (Rube) and his son James Henry (Jim) died in Poinsett only hours apart in Sept 1931 and are both buried there. James (Jim) was my grandfather and his son Calvin Lester was my father. Jim was married to Bertha Hord and they had the following: Maggie, Victor, Clarence, Clifford, Helen, James, Calvin, Christine, Lenard and Willie. Thomas Rueben and James David married into the Hudgins family and Amelia Jane married into the Abbott, Adams, and Bilderback families. James David's son, Edker Wayne, married into the Fortner family.
