She married a Charles Richard Tarlton on June 15 1896. Her parents were a James Colbert, born about 1827 in Illinois, and a Mary J. Unknown, born about 1830 in Tennessee. By this information this could possibly be our Mary Elizabeth's mother. Do you have any other information about this family or Mary's children? 1870 Illinois Census, Gallatin County Colbert, James 43 Farmer Illinois $1400 Real estate Mary J. 40 Housewife Tennessee H55 page 3 Equality TW 10 Range 9 B. David Duncan >> Hi David, Sorry for the delay in answering you. My mother (92) is just about dead and I have been spending my time there. I don't find your Mary Elizabeth Colbert in the James T Colbert family. Are you sure?, The 1870 Census shown by you does list James T and Mary J (Seets or Seats) Colbert correctly. They had 12 children from that marriage and Mary died in 1875. Their children were Lucy A 1847-1917 Allen D 1849-1859 Frances June 1851-1924 Sarah F 1852-1921 James T 1855-1926 (This son was often confused with his father-same name) Mary Lucretia 1858-1901 Aaron Stout 1860-1946 Margaret Elizabeth 1863-1916 (This is the line of Bob Black) She m Isaac Jennings) Thomas Jefferson 1864-1942 Isabelle F 1866-1895 Prudence 1869-1939 John B 1871-1893 Mary Seets Colbert died in 1875 and James T married Mary A Hull Frohock in 1879 Mary Azubah Hull was the daughter of Josiah Hull of Big Eagle country-across the county line and in Saline County. Mary married Lucian Polk Frohock. Lucian was the brother to my G Grandfather Thomas J Frohock. Lucian and Mary A had a daughter Phoebe Frohock and Lucian died. In 1879 widower James T Colbert married widow Mary A Frohock. They had 3 children Virgie b 1880 Virgil b 1883 Paul b 1892 after James T and Mary A married they built a home between Goolsby School and the Leamington Road (the Leamington Road was actually not a road then). James T's son James T owned the home where the Kedron-Karbers Ridge Road intersects the Leamington Road. That was called the Jame T corner (from the son's name) and later was called the Eel Colbert (very distant relation) corner. The more I explain the more complicated it gets. I just can't hardly give a simple answer. My nature. Anyway, James T senior died in 1906 and Mary continued to live in the home which was located at the foot of the largest hill in the area and that hill became known as the Mary Colbert hill to people of that time frame. Mary A died in 1943. Now, David, I don't find your Mary Elizabeth Colbert. There were many James, Marys and Elizabeths. I just don't believe that the James Colbert in the 1870 Census is your ancestor. My guess is that Mary Elizabeth is the dau of a James Colbert living in Saline Co. I don't have those statistics. Sorry. Do you have reason to disagree? I have been wrong before. It's easy to overlook an important detail.
