    3. Hello, Since many of the earliest Gallatin County families came from western Kentucky, I thought I would forward this message from the Henderson Co. (Ky) Historical and Genealogical Society. Jon Musgrave List Owner ----- Original Message ----- From: Netta To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, January 31, 2000 6:30 PM Subject: Announcements Good Evening: The Henderson County Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. has the following announcements: * NEW LOCATION: 132-B South Green Street. In the Kentucky Utilities Building (grey house) next to McDonald's restaurant on Green Street. * MEETINGS: First Thursday of every month at our new location at 5:30 p.m. * NEXT MEETING: February 3, 2000 * DUES: have been increased to $15.00 per individual per calendar year due to rising costs of postage, quarterly supplies, expenses, etc. * MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: Can be picked up @ the Research Center every Thursday or downloaded off of our web site here. * RESEARCH CENTER HOURS: weather permitting - is now open every Thursday from 1:30 to 5:00. Linda Hallmark, Genealogist and other volunteers have switched their busy schedules around to accommodate those researchers that want to take advantage of what the Society has to offer including a fantastic research library and microfilm collection purchased from Mr.. Shirley Moody. Any researcher that knows of Mr.. Moody, knows owning Moody's collections are a gold mine! As soon as the weather breaks, we will also have some Saturdays available for research. Until then, if there is a lot of snow or ice on the roads, researchers should be advised to call Linda Hallmark at home @ (270)521-6759 or the Society @ (270)830-7514 first to make sure we are open. We'd hate for you to make that drive for nothing. * REFERENCE MATERIALS AVAILABLE: Reference books on of Kentucky (most counties), North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and a few on Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. Microfilm on Kentucky counties: such as census records, marriages, wills, deeds, court orders, guardianships (which means you don't have to go to the Courthouses to see these records). We have a huge selection of Virginia books; most everyone's ancestors were in Virginia at one time or another. Family Files, Henderson Old Business Files (which are great for Henderson history research, these records may also list people and or family members who started the business). Files on Henderson history topics; such as, communities, churches, parks, wars, old buildings and a lot of these files as well as family and business files, will have great photos in them. * DONATIONS: are always welcome to help pay for the new 400 plus book library and microfilm collection we purchased from Mr.. Moody. * UPCOMING EVENTS: Book Fair - with some items marked down in price. Some items have already been reduced such as the sweatshirts, t-shirts, depot prints, etc. Mini-Seminars - for the beginning genealogists. Internet Workshops - to learn about what is available on our site as well as others. Genealogy Programs - what's available, how to use them, what works, what doesn't, etc. If your Society or mailing list has any announcements that you would like noted in the Society's quarterly "The Legacy", please feel free to contact me.
