    1. Re: [ILGALLAT] Banks Cemetery
    2. Hi Larry, I found a record of the Banks Cemetery. I was there in 1991 right after the Cemetery had been cleared off. I did not find a stone for Koster or any of your family that I know. However, there were a number of graves with sandstone markers which have become illegible over the years. Here is what I found: Banks Cemetery Banks Cemetery is located in Eagle Creek Township, Section 32,T10S R8E (Gallatin County, Illinois) on the south and west of the road that intersects with the Karber's Ridge road near Clayborn Vinyard's homeplace. Turn north 200 or 300 ft then west into the government pine forest and about the same distance to the most beautiful cleared acre. The setting of the cemetery is outstanding with the pines surrounding it. The site is in the NE corner of SW 1/4 of NE 1/4 of the section. Banks, J F 1831-1906 wife Nancy 1833-1904 Dan 1872-1901 son of JF & Nancy Thomas 1855?-1901 Otis D 880-1950 wife Magnolia Goolsby, Mrs Hulda 1825-1900 (probably wife of Kirby Goolsby) Moore, William 1842-1886 Hulda 1854-1941 (Hulda Banks??) John L 1865-1942 wife Carolyn (John Logan and Carolyn Cheek Moore) Burroughs, Mary F 1879-1908 wife of NB (fits date of dau of Geo W/Matilda B) Bluford 1894-1897 Claud 1903-1913 (Many of the native stones are illegible but the following had these initials.) CV 1885-1903 CBV 1887-1893 MFV 1885-1904 RRV 1858-1883 (Vinyards?) Gano--(two stones with only last name legible) (John Logan Moore, the son of Russell Moore, married Carolyn Cheek (above). William Moore was John Logan's older brother. William married Hulda Banks. The mother of Hulda Banks Moore may have been Hulda Goolsby. Hulda Goolsby was the wife of Kirby Goolsby (See 1870 Census). It is a good possibility that the Goolsby School was named after some member of the Kirby Goolsby family. The John Goolsby family lived next to the Kirby Goolsby family in 1870. Kirby was 51 YOA and John was 22. Kirby & wife Hulda and John Goolsby were born in TN. The Russell Moore family lived next door (censuswise) to the Kirby Goolsby family in 1870. The Soloman Banks family (&dau Hulda) lived on the other side of the Russell Moore family. Believe that George Gano (Guinaw) m Hannah Moore, dau of Russell Moore. See the Russell Moore Family. Hannah Moore the young sister of John Logan Moore married George Gano. Believe the two stones mentioned above are those of the Ganos spelled Guinaw in the Census of 1870) The John Goolsby family lived next to the Kirby Goolsby family in 1870. Believe that John was a son of Kirby and Hulda Goolsby. Kirby was 51, Hulda was 45 and John was 22 all born in TN. George Guinaw (Gano) was single age 16 living with the Kirby Goolsby family in 1870. Hannah Moore, dau of Russell and Nancy Moore was 16 and single at that time. Believe that George and Hannah married. William Moore married Hulda ??.William died and Hulda was remembered as Hulda Moore. Who was Hulda the wife of William? Hulda Banks was 1 YOA and William Moore was 21 YOA in 1870. That Hulda was not Williams wife. Believe that there was a Hulda, dau of Kirby and Huldy Goolsby, but have not located her. It is most likely that the Goolsby School was named after some member of the Kirby Goolsby family which lived there. Furthermore, the Russell Moore family owned land there. John Logan, son of Russell, ran the "store" at Goolsby. J R Black 1991
