Pat, Have you ever worked with Wanda Reed? I know that she has Patton's in her line from at least Hardin Co. I can forward your request if you haven't. Thanks to the prompting of List Member "S" my posting of James and Susan Elizabeth (RICE) PATTON was quickly answered by another generous researcher providing 1870 census information on the family. Thanks Everyone, Pat
The only connection I have in Gallatin, at this point, appears to be Larkin Brumley Jr. b c1833 in IL married to Elizabeth Cronk on March 16, 1861 in Gallatin Co, IL. Anyone out there have more info on this family and/or Larkins ancestors? Thanks, Ed Crabtree familyhistorian@kc.rr.com
My great grandmother, Margaret A. Harris married Levastus McKinney Lee in White County, Illinois on 3/31/1870. I cannot find her before that nor can I find her and Levastus(marriage license says Silvastus) in 1870 Census. Several of his family members are in New Haven, Gallatin County in 1870. She is said to have died late in 1870, probably in December when my grandmother was born, or early in 1871, in New Haven. Canot find her burial place either!! Lots of Harrises in Southern Illinois but cannot find her. Any info would be soooooo appreciated!! Barbara
Surnames: BALES/PATTON/RICE I am very interested in finding what happened to James M. and Susan Elizabeth (RICE) PATTON between 1860 & 1880. They were in the 1860 Gallatin County Census with the first of three sons (William T.). In 1880 their 2 younger sons John A. b. 5 July 1865 and Jacob F. b. 27 December 1866 were in the Saline County Census. I know that William T. PATTON lived and died in Missouri. Thanks for any Help Pat Patton

I am searching for information on Jordan Sullivan who married Sarah Rogers around 1866. Jordan was born in Kentucky. They had 2 children that I know of: John A. (L.) born 1878 married Eliza Jane Mahan 1903 Safrona married ______ Jones. Found Jordan on 1900 Eldorado Census with family and these 2 kids listed Found John A and Eliza Jane (Mahan)and family (my husbands great great grandparents) on 1910 Eldorado Census Found Safrona, husband (whose 1st name we can't read) and kids on 1920 Eldorado Census. Sarah was living with them and their kids on this census. Jordan was convicted of murder in 1896 at Shawneetown and sentenced to 15 or 20 yrs in prison. He died Sept 20th 1912 and according to the death certificate the cause of death was listed as falling off R.R. train. It lists that he was buried at the Kedron cemetery. However no parents are listed on the death certificate. I am looking for any one with further info on Jordan or Sarah, especially who their parents were and if they had any other children. Any info on Safrona's family and what happened to Sarah after Jordan's death. Thanks for any help. Beth & Mike Sullivan

Recently there was a request for information regarding a book that had been offered regarding Gallatin County that was to be mailed in October or November. I must have missed the response. When will it be mailed, or is mine lost in the mail? Thank you.

Why wait for someone to go to the Archives to get a copy of a death certificate? Why not go the the Archive page and fine out what county the death occurred in and send to that county to get a copy of the death certificate? Just make sure you request a copy for genealogy purposes only not certified and you can save $2.00 per copy. I don't know what all the counties charge but Gallatin County charges $5.00 per copy uncertified and please include a SASE. I think you can each counties address on the IL.SOS site. The Gallatin County Address is: Gallatin County Clerk PO Box 550 Shawneetown, IL 62984 Jan McCabe Hall
All, My SMOCK research queries has produced a very beneficial as well as abundant response from many people. I have tried to respond to every correspondent. If I missed you, it was not an intentional act, but just that I was overwhelmed at times. The issue of all the names of the children of C. SMOCK of USC 1810 Randolph Co., IL Terr. remains a mystery as does the name associated with the C. of C. SMOCK. Best regards, Hugh

Was it a Federal/Union/USA unit or Confederate/CSA unit? In what area was it recruited? My Thomas SMOCK, b. 1821, IL served in this KY unit. I'm not sure just why since there were IL units (Union) formed from his home area of Cave in Rock, Hardin Co., IL. If he wanted to serve in the CSA, then the KY enlistment makes some sense. Would appreciate being educated about Co. D, 48 KY Infantry. Best regards, Hugh >> Hugh, Here is an address for the 48th Kentucky infantry (union). I believe this was a mounted regiment. There also might have been a confederate unit, also. http://www.researchonline.net/kycw/unit154.htm Hope this helps. Larry Koster
Hi, all, I also make regular trips to the Illinois State Archives and would be willing to get death certificates for anyone who is interested. My next trip is scheduled for Tuesday, 10 December.
