Ack Where can we find that book? anyone know? > This story is excitingly told in the book by John Sidney Kennedy and Dorothea Kennedy, "Genealogy of the descendants of John Kennady"; Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1980. > > Lory Holm in Vermont >
Martha -- > << MCCOOL, A - KANADY, MARY 12/27/1821 >> > > Who were Mary's parents?? Mary Kanady, b. abt 1802 in Nelson or Hardin County, Kentucky, was the third child (of 9) of Moses (b. abt 1775) and Keziah (Johnson) Kanady. In migrating west, Moses and Keziah probably never crossed the Ohio from Union County, Kentucky, but all nine children settled in Gallatin County aft 1818. >I have a Moses Kanady and his family, and then his brother, Washington Kanady, and his family. Their mom >was Mary but her married name was Kanady! This Moses, b. 16 Nov. 1828, is the son of John Johnson Kanady (b. 1804, Mary's brother). He and his brother Washington were two (of nine) children of John J. and Mary (Sherwood) Kanady. > Do you know anything about their great uncle Peter Kanady, who was captured > by the Indians and lived with them for 13 years? Peter Kennedy, b. 1769, was the older brother of the elder Moses. (There were ten brothers, and Moses was the only one to use the Kanady spelling.) Peter was wounded and captured by the Indians in Kentucky at the age of 13, was held captive for two years, was wounded again during a dramatic escape, but lived to the age of 70 and left seven children and many descendants. This story is excitingly told in the book by John Sidney Kennedy and Dorothea Kennedy, "Genealogy of the descendants of John Kennady"; Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1980. Lory Holm in Vermont

From another list: Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. Permission is granted to pass this on. I am desented from Adam McCool and Mary Kanady. I noticed your posts on the Kanady message board. MCCOOL, A - KANADY, MARY 12/27/1821 His son Benjamin "Franklin" McCool Married the Bean lady. I am trying to sort out this family. We are pretty sure Franklin was the son of Adam. They moved to Arkansaw together then Franklin came back, Not sure if Adam did or not. But any infomation you have on Adam would sure help. and Anything on Mary would to. I do have some info on Adam in Arkansaw. He named the City of Dewitt, in Arkasaw county. I will dig it out and send to you. But since you releated to this bunch you realated to me too :). Wish more states did. http://www2.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/genealogy/forms/marrsrch.ht ml if you follow the links back to the main page, there alot more data bases, but this the one I use most. George Washington Chaffin is a brother to my grandmother, Lavina Vilena Chaffin NELSON. Amanda Catherine was called "Aunt Kate" by almost everyone who knew her. Uncle George was born Mach 14, 1861 in Ridgway, Gallatin CO., IL. Aunt Kate was born on July 23, 1860 near Elba, Gallatin CO., IL. They were married July 8, 1880 in Gallatin County, IL. Uncle George died July 27, 1938 in Gallatin CO., IL and is buried at Union Chapel Cemetery in North Fork Twsp, Gallatin CO., IL. Aunt Kate died Jan. 14, 1962 in Eldorado, Saline Co., IL and is buried in the Wolf Creek Cemetery, Eldorado, IL. They had 7 children any many of their descendents still live in and around Eldorado. Hello everyone, After months of waiting, the Handbook of Old Gallatin County and Southeastern Illinois is ready to be shipped from the printers tomorrow. That means I should receive it sometime early next week. I really appreciate everyone who pre-ordered the book and had the patience to stick with me. As I've explained before, a teaching job starting last September pre-empted my plans. The book is a 6 x 9" hardcover book with 464 pages that includes a full version of the 1887 history of Gallatin County (plus updates and corrections), two new sections from other 19th and early 20th Century sources that provide other elements of the county's history entitled Early Anecdotes of Gallatin County and Military History of Gallatin County. The book also contains more than 250 biographies of early Gallatin County men, plus a couple of women. And as required for any book that is of interest to genealogists, it's fully indexed. The retail cost is $32 plus $5 shipping and handling. If you get your order in by next Friday, I'll still give you the 25 percent pre-order discount. You'll save $8, for a total cost of $29 ($24 plus $5 s/h). Orders can be made by sending a check to IllinoisHistory.com, PO Box 1142, Marion IL 62959. (Please include your e-mail address if you pay by mail). You can also order online at www.IllinoisHistory.com/Handbook. I'm set up to take credit cards using PayPal. Thanks for your support. Here's a Mayfield who might tie in: Descendants of James D Mayfield 1 James D Mayfield . +Julia A Hudgins m: April 23, 1878 in Gallatin Co, Illinois
Surnames: MAYFIELD TROTTER HUDGINS FORTNER Submitter: Elgin Mayfield (ElginFly@aol.com) Date: 24 Feb 2003 I am researching my great-great-grandfather, John MAYFIELD and his family. He appears in the 1860 Gallatin Co. census with his wife Mary. John was born in Rutherford Co., TN in 1828. John served in the 131 IL Inf during the Civil War. He married Louise Midgett PARKER in Gallatin Co. in 1864. John died there in 1876 and is buried in Gallatin. John's son Logan MAYFIELD was a town marshall in Ridgway at one time. There are some older MAYFIELD's listed in Gallatin and may be related. Some other surnames that are related to these MAYFIELD's are HUDGINGS, FORTNER, and TROTTER. I would appreciate any information. Thanks in advance. Elgin MAYFIELD ElginFly@aol.com
