    1. Re: [ILGALLAT] Re: VINSON,STATON, SARVER FAMILIES
    2. Lory: The Jennie VINSON/ James PHELPS line is the line I'm trying to trace back. I haven't made any progress on the PHELPS line yet, but the VINSON line is what I'm presently trying to trace back. I have located Jennie VINSON and James PHELPS burial location in Posey Co., Indiana at the Welborne Cemetery. Anything else on these two surnames I am interested in discovering. Thanks for your assistance. Glenn.

    1. [ILGALLAT] FATIMA MARGARET KANADY ???
    2. Lory, Are you really sure about this being the correct name for Frances M. Canady? The name of the witness, Johnson Canady, on this document is an actual signature and I had assumed that he was a relative of the bride. Of course that may not have been the case. Did Fatima marry Nathaniel Floyd? Did Ida have any siblings? She was married to my great uncle and I know nothing about her. I have a slightly out of focus group photograph which includes Ida Floyd. It was made about 1912 or 1913 in Texas. To answer your first question, the parenthetical data IS on the marriage license, except for the death dates and the references to Titus Co. TX. In answer to your second question, no, I do not know the people you list. I noticed the Hester K. and Samuel H McG. union listed in the marriage index. I could not identify him as either of my Samuel McGehees (one born abt. 1813, the other in 1848.) I feel sure he is related to me but I do not have him listed with the children of any of my McGehees. Please tell me more about Fatima. Mary Ann Webber

    1. [ILGALLAT] Benjamin Jones
    2. David Schichner
    3. Trev, Have you seen the 1840 Gallatin Co. census, 1850 Saline Co. census and the Land grants? It looks like your Benjamin had a bunch of kids. There is a John in 1850 census, born in Kentucky. There was a very early Jones in a few miles south of Benjamin. (1819) The 1850 census shows young Benjamin had no land but Elizabeth 53 years old did. So.... the land purchased by Benjamin in 1839 and 1842 must have been the elder before he died. The location of 7S 5E which is in Tate Twp, is closer to McLeansboro than Shaneetown. They could have leaned toward Hamilton Co for business. I checked Greenberry Jones (easier than William or John) and found he married in Hamilton Co. A look for a Hamilton Co Cemetery might be helpful. I believe there are around 30 plus pictures and names in it. If you are interested, I can find out more about it. The graduating class was around 1870's or 80's. 3. Glenn Miner (and others) traveled from Cemetery to Cemetery in Gallatin Co, Illinois and nearby area, recording tombstone inscriptions for many many years. He published book one in 1973 and book two in 1979. Both books have a pretty decent index. There are some Dunn's but no William in book #2. If they died in Springfield they would not be in these books unless they would have been brought here for burial. 3. Mary Ann -- Thanks so much for this one! I've got a comment and two questions. 1. I'm surprised at Frances M. Canady -- it really is Fatima Margaret Kanady -- I had thought that the spelling variations had subsided by 1901. 2. Can I assume that the parenthetical data is not on the marriage license copy? 3. Hester Kanady, Fatima Margaret's younger sister, married a McGehee (Samuel H.) in 1876; they may have had a daughter Betty. Hester later married Dr. Jacob Fais of Louisville, KY. Dave, Martin's birthplace, parents and siblings remain illusive. Born in Ohio, he married in Clark County, Ohio to Mary who settled there with her family from West Virginia. Their oldest child was born in Arkansas before their return to Ohio and on to Illinois. In 1854 he purchased federal land in Hamilton County but continued to show up in Gallatin County Census records. Thanks for the additional information. He seems to have been a trustworthy merchant and manufacturer. Someone we will be happy to tell our grandchildren about!! Barbara
