    3. I no reason to believe my Ledbetter was in Illinois....however, can't pass up a chance that he might have been: Hal, you wrote of James Ledbetter. I have a James A. Ledbetter married to Seriena Pace. That is all I know of this man, execpt that a daughter of his, Myrtle Ann, married a John George Stevens in Alabama in 1886. She was a child bride. Apparent J.G. Stevens first saw her at age 5, and said she was so beautiful that he was gonna wait for her to grow up and marry her. Records indicate that she married at age of 13? J.G. Stevens was some 25 years older than she. Any Ledbetter experts out there that recognize this family?? God Bless, ear

    1. Re: [ILGALLAT] McGehee Family around Gallatin
    2. David Schichner
    3. Elizabeth, Maybe we found your elusive Daniel. In 1847 Saline Co. was formed out of Gallatin Co. When a new County is formed, marriage and census records stay with the old county, but land records go to the new county. So, if I buy land in Gallatin in 1837, and that land is in the part of the county that becomes Saline co, the record will go to Saline Co. The 1850 census for Saline Co shows Daniel C. McGehee age 62, Mary age 18, and what looks like David age 20. The census also shows he has land worth $200 and all 3 were born in Tennessee. The land record for Saline Co shows Daniel MCGAHAH (spelled all caps but I would guess McGahah) purchased 80 acres on July 3, 1837, towit, the west 1/2 of the southeast 1/4 of section 2, township 10 south, range 7 east. This would be in Mountain township in the southern part of Saline co. If you look on a map it would be in the southeast corner of Saline Co, 1 1/8 miles west of the Gallatin Co line. There are 2 other land records for McGehee in Saline co, a some miles north and east of Daniel's place. They are Moses and Charles W. MCGEHEE CHARLES W FD SENW 23 08S 06E 3 40.00 - 18 Mar 1854 from Daniel this would be about 8 miles north and 6 miles west. MCGEHEE MOSES FD SENE 24 08S 05E 3 8.00 - 3 Nov 1853 from Daniel this would be about 8 miles north and 16 miles west in Galatia Township, and maybe just on the outskirts or the town of Galatia. The Abney family used to own a big piece (maybe half) of T8S R5E. Also Galatia is about 24 miles west of City of Omaha. I don't have any Saline Co books. I wish I did. Maybe Santa will be good. I do have a few other things to check. If you would like an image of the census record or a little map of the corner of Saline Co, let me know and I will e-mail it to you. I think it is in the present Shawnee National Forest. 2. Dave, Lori looked in Book #1 but try again for me please. My great grandmother, MARGARET HARRIS LEE, was said to have died in Gallatin County in late 1870 or early 1871. He lists her name as Margaret Rilia Harris Lee on some records but I have not been able to confirm whether the Rilia is a middle name or former marriage. Thanks, Barb Clark

    1. [ILGALLAT] SAMUEL, son of Chas. McGehee
    2. Lory, In 1978, a woman named Lucille Lawler of Ridgeway, Illinois, wrote to me after seeing a McGehee/Gallatin Co. Query that I placed in some genealogy journal. She offered to do some research for me for a nominal rate. She is the person who went to the McGehee Cemetery and made polaroids of the stones and recorded most of the inscriptions (she left out Mildred and Nathalie, the two little girls who died in 1907.) She said this in her typed report: Samuel McGehee has marker dated (1848-1872) That makes two sources with those dates for him. I don't know which Samuel married Hester but I suspect he was a third one. Mary Ann

    3. No Joseph, Sally or Daniel McG*** buried in Glen Miner's book#1. Nor are they in the 1850 Gallatin County census index. And Joseph is not listed as head of household in the 1830 or 1840 census index. But http://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/marriage there is a marriage of Joseph McGehee to Sally Boardwine in Fulton County 17 Jan 1844; and another marriage of Joseph McGehee to Sarah Ann Billups in White County 18 Oct 1869.
