    1. Re: [ILGALLAT] Map of Illinois
    2. David Schichner
    3. If you looked at the page on my site at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~davidca/south-co.jpg , it is only a part of the map which is Railroads and Counties of Illinois 1854. (the whole state). The map is from the Library of Congress. I like it because it has the Section grid and on the whole map there are references to the section number system. It was from that map that I realized that the extreme east edge of White Co and just a tad of Gallatin are ranged from the 2nd PM rather than the 3rd. You can view the whole map at the Library of Congress American Memory Collection and you can Zoom in and out. It can be down loaded. It is very big - 28 meg. and you have to have the Mr. Sid viewer, but it was well worth the trouble to me. The Mr. Sid viewer is free and is mentioned at the bottom of the L. of C. page. The way Mr. Sid works, when you ZOOM in on something it re-focus the image. It's great. >From Mr. Sid, you can export a part of the map to a tif image, then in other programs, change it to a bmp, paint on it, and save it as a jpg. I sent a link to the map but it failed because of the way they use the cgi/bin, so here is how to find the map. Go to Library of Congress American Memory at http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/amhome.html Click on Search. Click on Maps in the Limit search area to the right. Change "match any of these words" to "match all of these words" Type with just a space between railroad illinois county Click on search. Item #7 should be the 1854 railroad map. 3. Pat -- I agree that it isn't likely -- I see that in the 1850 census Susan Rice was 9, which would make her 17 at her marriage. Her sister Margaret was then 8 which would make her 18 at the marriage of Mary Margaret Rice to Andrew J Patton in 1860. 3. Hello, I have just joined this list, looking for my gr-gr-grandparents, Anderson and Mary Ann Henry Seat. It SEEMS that he joined the army durinf the Civil War and was in the South for awhile. Then after the war, he married there, had a daughter, and moved down here. Was it common for folks to go from TN to IL, or vise-versa? It's interesting that this is only the 2nd message Ive read, and the connection between TN and IL has already been mentioned. Appreciate any help. Sandra [email protected] wrote: > > WOW! 2. I want to clear something up before I leave. Daniel's first wife was FANNY Cunnington, not Nancy. My informant didn't read it right. I have Dan's death certificate in front of me now. The information was given by his son, Walter. Dan's date of death was July 22, 1923. his age as 87 years and 4 days on that date. It is also listed as 87 yr., 3 days in another place on the certificate. Dan's father is Joseph McGe-?(could be an h). Is there what looks like an Eldres, ILL? Dan's mother: is practically unreadable, looks like Sallie or Sadie Banniscer, Barriscer,Barner, Bonner? Her birth place looks like Detroit? Ditrist?, Kanas? Kacan? VERY SMUDGED. We are not certain about Walter's age. I met him in 1944. He seemed to be around 55 years old, but looks can be deceiving. We think he was a full brother to William, my father-in-law, who was born DEC 3, 1891. He is listed in the 1900 census as eleven years old. I am taking copies of the research done for me, so I can make comparisons. I'll be online Monday. Thanks so much. I hope you know what this means to me. Elizabeth
