My sister and I are planning a trip to so. Ill in Jan to dig around in the records of White, Saline and Gallatin counties. Am looking for suggestions on where I need to start in Gallatin and what type of resources are available. Also times when these resources are open. My gggrandparents lived in Gallatin from ca 1853 to 1900. The youngest children were born there and most were probably married there also. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to make the trip as profitable as possible and don't know the area at all. Thanks in advance. Donna
Donna, Oops, that's the Saline Co. Historical Society in Harrisburg, not Gallatin. Martha Harpling
Donna, There is a Church of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) on Route 142 just south of Eldorado, Illinois. They have computers hooked up to their main files in Utah. The Saline Co. Courthouse is on the square in Harrisburg, as well as the Gallatin Co. Historical Society. Martha Harpling
Gallatin Co. Courthouse is in Shawneetown on the square. The courthouse is open Monday-Friday, regular business hours. The Shawneetown Library is also on the square next to the Fire Department. I believe the library is open Monday-Saturday. They have a genealogical section. Martha Harpling
I hope no one objects to me posting this on the list. A friend sent it to me and I tried it. I received an Email in a few minutes telling me I was virus free. Or you can go online to http://housecall.antivirus.com and have your computer scanned and repaired online. I have heard of some friends that went there and had viruses they didn't even know about, there are some real dangerous ones set to reformatt your harddrive CHRISTMAS DAY so if you don't have any virus protection now go get it scanned the price is FREE so do it now, you have been warned. I am sorry to post this to a Genealogy list but some people will be doing their research all over again because they didn't think they had a virus. Regards Jim Church ______________________________
