I don't know what they charge, but I'm pretty sure they don't have e-mail. Bonnie, They charge $5.00 and I have seen no mention of an e-mail address. I ordered my copies by writing letters and enclosing checks. Mary Ann Webber
Does anyone know how much the Gallatin County Courthouse charges for copies of a marriage certificate and if they have an e-mail address? According to one record Ann Stilly married Stephen Chambers in Gallatin County, Illinois on July ll, l830, Page l2(The Book, Gallatin County, ILL marriages). Martha, Re: Martha Vinyard One Myrtle Vinyard lived in southern part of Eagle Creek Township. She was born Oct 4, 1900 and died March 2, 1931. Buried at Vinyard Cemetery in Karbers Ridge. She married John Watters. She was the dau of John Oliver Vinyard and the g dau of Anderson and Emaline Vinyard and would have gone to Goolsby School. However, Goolsby was at one time called Hickory Ridge School. Don't know when it was named Goolsby. Yes there was another Hickory Ridge School in (I believe) Equality Township. If this Myrtle Vinyard matches yours, Nancy (Watters) Marti should be able to give you more info than I can. Bob B
Nancy, The Saline County Genealogical Society has a scrapbook from the 1910s put together by a student at Equality High School. There are various photographs in it, but I don't remember if they have names with them. I gone through the photos because they have a great picture of some students in an old car on the old iron bridge at Equality, another set of pictures of the steps carved into the cliffs below the town, and some other town photos. The Society should have information on where they got the scrapbook which might lead to some names of the people in the photos Jon Musgrave www.IllinoisHistory.com The Saline County ----- Original Message ----- From: Nancy <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 17, 2000 1:59 PM Subject: QExpress for Gallatin Co., Illinois ( VINYARD ) > <table border=0> > <tr><td valign=top> > <b>Surnames: </b></td> > <td valign=top> <A NAME="sh_Q_017115936">VINYARD </A><br> > </td></tr> > <tr><td valign=top><b>Submitter: </b></td> > <td valign=top>Nancy > (<A HREF=mailto:[email protected]>[email protected]</A>)<br> > </td></tr> > <tr><td valign=top><b>Date: </b></td> > <td valign=top>17 Jan 2000 > <br></td></tr> > <td valign=top colspan=2> > <br> > I am searching for anyone who would have photos of students from the Equality area between the period 1907 and 1916. For the person (ooooh bad memory on who and which county--sorry!): I was able to locate my partial copy of the Illinois 1850 Gallatin Co. Census and on it are the following TARRANTS:James E. TARRANTS, age 30, laborer Mary Tarrants,24 Haldah A. , age 7 William H. ,age 5 David S. , age 1 The above were all in Household # 136, Cane Creek Township. In household # 58 (Bear Creek Township) I find: Asa B. Tarrants age 31, farmer; Mary age 24, James A. age 8, Betsy J. age 7, Thomas J. age 5, and William E. age 3. In household # 63, Bear Creek Township: James TARRANTS, age 58, farmer; Jane age 56;Mary J. age 21; and in the same household were Benjamin F.BRUCE age 25 farmer, and Tabitha W. BRUCE, age 23. If anyone knows anything about Benjamin and Tabitha BRUCE I'd love to chat with you. I hope the data on the TARRANT family is what you needed. I suspect that James and Asa TARRANTS were probably sons of the elder James and his wife Jane. Jane was Shawnee Indian and the mother of Isoville/ Isavilla TARRANT b. abt 1826 that married William T. Nancy, Vinyards attended schools all over Gallatin County. In the book, One Room Schools in Gallatin County, Illinois, by Lucille Lawler, Vinyards attended Cedar Bluff School, Goolsby School, Greer School, Gum Springs School and Kedron School. Do you know where in Gallatin County Myrtle Vinyard lived? My grandmother, Edna Ruth Crest Syers, went to school in Equality, and graduated from Equality Township High School I believe in 1917. I have her senior annual and will check it for your grandmother's name. I am also looking for a picture of her when she was a teacher at Wildcat School, Hickory Hill School and Greer School around 1920. Jon, I would be very interested in finding out about the pictures in the scrapbook myself. The Crests farmed outside of Equality just past where the old iron bridge was and lived on the hill by the rocks. Martha Baker Harpling

I have a cousins relationship chart, but haven't learned to use my scanner yet. Since it's a chart, would be awful to type. I'll try to work on it today and send it to the list! Sandra "Carol E. The correct address for David Sylvester's page is http://members.mint.net/dws/ Go to "Dave's Genealogy Page" then to "Download my Electronic Relationship Chart". He has links of other relationship type charts/calculators. Thanks to all who responded about the cousin relationships mystery. I appreciate your time and your willingness to share your knowledge! I had a great time looking through all the charts on David Sylvester's site and now I can "talk the talk" on that subject. - Carolyn

Carol and Carolyn, Pardon my "butting in" <G>, but I've worked a bit with trying to figure out some of these relationships - they can certainly be a bit trying, to say the least! Ha! Trying - heck, they can be downright maddening..... If you are first cousins, you share a set of grandparents (one of your parents, and one of THEIR parents, are siblings). You are first cousins, once removed, with your first cousin's children; likewise, your children would be first cousins, once removed, with your first cousin. An example of a first cousin, twice removed, would be you and your first cousin's grandchildren. Second cousins share a common set of great-grandparents. So, an example of second cousins, once removed, would be you and the children of your second cousin. And so on and so forth through the dizzying examples.... I'm all for using my own copy of Family Tree Maker to figure this all out!!! <G> Skip - in sunny <!> MN (yeah, right, you betcha!)

Oh boy, you've got me there, Carolyn! I cheat because I use the Family Tree Maker program and when you click on "View" and go click on" Kinship Report" it calculates your relationship with the selected parties for you. Somewhere in my files, (buried deep because I just got everything moved into it's own dedicated room and it is sitting in stacks all over the table) I have an old news article that tells about relationships, but can't find it right now. Don't know if FTM online will have that or not. Sorry not to be able to help you. I think "removed" means that you share one set of grandparents or something like that, but am not positive. I'll dig around and see if I can find it and will post it when I do. Carol Dugger
