I recently posted a query trying to get in touch with "Bonnie" who left the following message in my guest book: I am the granddaughter of Sol and Goldie Lane. My father was James W. Lane. There are only two still living in dad's family - Mary Ruth and Nora. Earl had another son named Ralph - still living. Larry Frank is deceased. If you'd like more info, email me a My ISP seems to have blocked my messages from these lists. So, I don't know if anyone answered my query. Sorry for the repeat, but I'd really like to hear from "Bonnie". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just like any story, the who, what, where, and when are vital but why and how completes the picture. But then we could leave why and how to historians rather than genealogists. I prefer to answer why and how. Ernie Heltsley
Ernie Very true and so do I. My original post was out of frustration. I subscribe to a multitude of list and some are getting really poor post. Example "Anything on John Smith?" (the actual name was another common name) to a surname list no dates or locations. At one time we were all beginners/novice. Let them figure out who, what, where and when at the next level why and how. Please remember Who, What, When and Where are very important for Genealogy. Post should give; Who, Given and surname and spouse(s) When are Where were they born, married , lived and died. If dates are not certain a date range or use about. What are you looking for parents, siblings , spouses, locations. What were some of the sources for your data The more thought and specific information put in a post the higher the likely hood of getting good useful replies back. Thanks Kent
Surnames: BISHOP COWEN Submitter: Angelique Reder (DiamondDmon@webtv.net) Date: 05 Oct 2001 URL: htt://community.webtv.net/DiamondDmon/SoulChasers I am in search of Tabitha J. ?, possibly Cowen. I discovered a marriage license for Tabitha J. Cowen to Joseph Bishop in Gallatin Co. Ill. I know they had a daughter named Elnora Bishop. Tabitha was born in Sept.?-1856? I do not know where she was born. But her daughter, Elnora was born in Omaha, Gallatin, Illinois in 1891. I desperatly want to know who Tabitha was, and who her parents were. If anyone has any information on this family please contact me as soon as possible. Angelique Reder
Thanks Rose for looking for me. Jerry
I am unable to load Glen Minors Cemetery Books. Would someone look for a Noah C. Willis and/or Caroline(Catherine??) Willis Noah's wife. I already know where Albert and Phoebe are buried. Thanks, Jerry
Hi Nancy, Shawneetown is now "Old Shawneetown," but most of the population was moved inland 5 miles to a "new" Shawneetown, the Gallatin county seat. The 1937 flood, the latest of several over time, finally did her in. The levies were built but too late to save the old town. Don't know how many people still live there. Don't know of your ancestors either. Someone else may contribute there. The 1830s-40s is when my Morris ancestors came into Gallatin County, but at Eldorado, in Saline County since Gallatin was split in 1847. Good luck, Ernie Heltsley/Tucson
Hi Gallatin, I am looking for the burial places of Jane Nisewanger and her husband Peter. Peter died in 1834 in Shawneetown and Jane died after 1840 in shawneetown. Can anyone tell me where they are now and what shawneetown might be called now? Crawford Cemetery also known as Camp Ground, is located just west of Ridgway in North Fork Twp. Section 25, T8S R8E. (description for section under Crawford Cemetery.) Glen Miner's book about the Cemeteries of Gallatin County is on line on the Gallatin County Web Site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgalla2/. Scippio Lamb made coffins, but I do not know that he had an Undertaking Business as we think of it today. Caroline

Hello Listowners, I thought that this was something that some of the local genealogy societies might be interested in, considering that so many of our researchers are involved in finding relatives from the United Kingdom. Therefore, am forwarding this message I recently received from England. Carol Dugger ***************************************** Hello Rita Thank You for letting me know your concerns. I have forwarded this to Richard Ratcliffe who represents us on the 1901 Advisory Panel, but can I also ask (if you have not already done so) that you express your concerns to the PRO as well. Their website can be found at www.pro.gov.uk There is a piece in the latest Newsflash about the 1901 census (Margaret Brennand attended the 'Getting to Know You day' in Coventry in July) so if you send me your full contact details I can send you a copy. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of any more assistance to you. Best Wishes Maggie Loughran Administrator FFHS PO BOX 2425 COVENTRY CV5 6YX TEL 024 7667 7798 E-MAIL admin@ffhs.org.uk www.ffhs.org.uk ******************************************** >From Richard Ratcliffe 5 September 2001 Your emails to the FFHS Administrator have been forwarded to me as I am the FFHS representative on the 1901 Census Advisory Panel. Can I first direct you to the 1901 census website so that you can read the minutes of the last meeting and also see the latest PRO Update on the project. I have also written several articles for Federation Newsflash and Family History News and Digest and there will be an article in the October issue of Family Tree Magazine. Throughout all the meetings of the Advisory Panel I have constantly raised the matter of Family History Societies being able to purchase microfiche copies of the 1901 Census for their local areas. The PRO is not prepared to allow this to happen immediately but has promised to review the position within 2-3 months of the launch of the 1901 Census and I will be holding them to that promise. in the meantime every County Record Office and County Local Studies Library has been contacted by the PRO with details of how they can purchase microfiche. I cannot say if the PRO has also contacted overseas Record Offices and reference Libraries. perhaps you would be kind enough to advise me on this point. I plan to attend the next meeting of the Advisory Panel on Sept 19th. I hope this partially answers your queries but I can assure you that there are 5 other people on the Advisory Panel who are as eager as I am to ensure that FHSs can purchase microfiche copies and help their members who do not have Internet access. Best wishes, Richard Ratcliffe, FFHS Archives Liaison Officer

Dear List, For the past couple of years I have followed this list closely. During that time I've reaped a lot of information from it and thank you all for the help you have given me. However, I have found that I have now collected a bunch of material that needs to be organized and have decided to drop off the list for a time in order to do that. I will be back after I have things in order. In the meantime, please, if anyone has any information on any of the following people, please e-mail me directly at GBorgrink@AOL.com . George Beeler McComb and his wife, Amanda Frances Davis nee Talley who lived in Equality in Gallatin County from about 1868 to around 1880. Amanda may have died and been buried in Gallatin County. Amanda's son, Thomas Alexander Davis and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth House (or possibly Harris) who married in Gallatin County in 1869. They were still there as of 1880 and are buried in Ellmwood Cemetery in Gallatin County as are four of their daughters, Nellie, Nannie, Gertrude and Hallie and their husbands. Thomas's children: 1. Mary who died as a child sometime before 1880. 2. Nellie T. Davis (1872 to 1945) and her husband Frank E. Smith Any of their children 3. Nannie E. Davis (1875 to 1945) and her husband John K. Breckenridge Any of their children (I know Nannie had at least one) 4. Gertrude Davis (1879 to 1964) and her husband Walter Sutton Their daughter, Elizabeth Jane Sutton or any other children 5. Hallie Davis (1883 to 1965) and her husband Moses Quincy Maas Their sons a. Carroll J. Maas b. Quincy Maas or any other children 6. son Carroll Davis (born after 1880) Carroll's children a. Carroll Davis Jr. b. Oliva c. Carolyn or any other children Amanda's daughter Mary Eliza Davis, born 1847, died around 1882, possibly in Gallatin County. George and Amanda's daughter Georgina McComb born in 1959. Married a Charles W. Benedict in Indiana in 1882 but may have returned to Illinois with the family. She died in 1883, possibly in Gallatin County, though not likely.
Does anyone out there have any information on John Forrester (1785-1856). His name is mentioned quite a few times in Glenn Miner's History of Gallatin Co. > http://www.ancestry.com/subscribe/subscribetrial1y.asp?sourcecode=F11HB
Carol -- This Hester A. Kanady is a mystery -- but I'm quite sure that she must be kin to the Kanadys you mention. Infantry in the just finished Civil War and about to become mayor of Shawneetown -- maybe a namesake. George Washington Kanady who married (1875) Sarah Elender Bruce was the next older brother of Samuel E. Kanady; and my records show that it is he, Samuel E. Kanady, who marries Nancy J. Bruce 1 Apr 1883. I'd be interested to know where you find a C. T. Kanady. Is Nancy Jane the "Janice" Bruce as listed in the 1880 census, age 20? How are Robert Marshall Bruce and Alexander E.
