Perhaps someone can help me. Like everyone, I love going to old newspapers to confirm marriage and death dates and, when lucky, getting an obituary. I'm very interested in three men, brothers I think, who lived in Fulton County from about 1840 until their deaths. All three are buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. They are: John WALLING , d 2 Jan 1878 Lewis WALLING, d 1880 Peter WALLING, d 19 March 1885. With 2 exact dates of death, I had pretty good hopes of finding newspaper accounts. Plus, I learned that Peter's obit appeared in the Fulton County Ledger in the issue of March 26, 1885. I have the April 1991 issue of Illinois Libraries, which lists the newspapers in the Illinois State Historical Library, as of that time. Unfortunately, I could not find in it any newspaper issues listed for the period(s) I need. Does anyone know if there's another location (perhaps in Fulton County??) where I might be able to get Fulton County newspapers around the above dates? Also, if there are folks on the list who live in Fulton County, would someone mind letting others know whether/how a trip to Fulton County for research would be particularly useful. Are there records there that we really can't find anyplace else? (like newspapers perhaps?) I just returned from spending a few days at the "big" library in Salt Lake City. While I was thrilled to find there the wonderful books on Cemetery Inscriptions of Fulton County and the books of funeral home records, I didn't find land records or probate records on film there. If you made a trip to Fulton County, what would you find????
