Judy, you'll find some of the very nicest and helpful people in the world. i spent a full day in the courthouse recently, they laugh, they smile and they can cry w/you when you find a sad bit of info. It's also a beautiful little town-Lewiston-Court House and town square. We had a lovely time as well as a potful of genealogy!!!! I went to Greenwood Cem. after the courthouse, in the dark, and found many acres--my hb. was muttering about 'food-too dark to see-hungry-thirsty--'. but i dept driving. Turned a corner in that vast cem. and there was the stone of my Great Grandma's son, by a first marriage, James (lamb) REED, his wf. Margaret Mitchell Reed, next to him. The Cem is HUGE, so be prepared. i had been chasing this little Lamb from birth in Allegany Co. MD, 1854, to wherever. The records are so complete, lots of Cem. books, that i found his funeral, his move to Allamakee Co. IA.(what the heck was he doing there??) and the informants on his death record, which led me to another 50 relatives.!!! You might want to make sure someone is avail. at the Cem., altho' the books have a code for burial sites(it was to dark for me to see)>:) Great places to eat, real food!, and some nice old buildings. >From this, you can gather, it was a hilight of my week out "on the road". Low priced motels, clean, friendly people. You will also find some towns w/old Scots names--Dunfermline--mining communities where my kins dug coal. Drive around, it's rich in history and heritage. I did not get ot the newspaper office or the genealogy centre--that's for next month. I've mean meaning to send this post to Fulton-List for some time, and now you just gave me a reason--to ans. your quest. i want to thank all those great folks, who not only tolerated me but helped out-- Tremendously. Cheers, Ginny Seaholm Horicon, WI _____________________________ -----Original Message----- going to old newspapers >to confirm marriage and death dates and, when lucky, getting an obituary. > I'm very interested in three men, brothers I think, who lived in Fulton >County from about 1840 until their deaths.
