    3. On 30 Jan 1999, I sent a letter to Fulton County Court Clerk in Lewistown requesting the cost of a Will/Probate for my ancestor John ORWIG, Sr. I supplied the Packet numbers from an Index (I enclosed a photocopy) I discovered in the Public Library in Cuba, Illinois last summer. I also enclosed a SASE. On 24 Apr 1999, I wrote again that I had not heard from the Clerk. Still no reply. Again I enclosed a SASE. Today, 16 Sep 1999 I received this letter, in the mail, from May C. Hampton, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Fulton County, in one of my SASE: SUBJECT: Probate Research DATE: Sept. 13, 1999 Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you but I have finally located the missing file of John Sr (#1677). Cost of the research will be $32.00 and the cost of the copies you are requesting is $21.00. Please let me know if you still wish all the information on the Orwigs as listed in your 1821-1963 index. Thank you. (signed) Mary C Hampton JP I gave her the Index numbers! There was NO research to be done! All she had to do was use the numbers to pull the correct FILE! She even stated she got the Index numbers from me! What kind of SCAM is going on in this Courthouse? I meet a lot of nice people in Fulton County on my visit in the summer of 1998, but never anyone like this Clerk! If anyone living in Fulton County can share their experiences in dealing with this Clerk, please reply to this list? thanks for listening to me, gary -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gary Barton gbarton@pacbell.net "Its never too late to have a happy childhood."
