    1. Re: Another Court Clerk Problem
    2. I followed the advice given by some of the ILFULTON group. I found the name of Mary Hampton's boss, and contacted him. And, yesterday, Mary Hampton called me (Long distance-her dime), and apologized for all the grief her 'deputy' had put me through. She agreed that Joyce Putman is NOT doing research, and that she was wrong to tell me to go through the Fulton County Genealogical Society, and that she had no legal right to withhold public information from anyone. Therefore, Mary Hampton has promised that I will recieve these Wills ordered in June and I won't have to pay any more money. I told her I had visited the courthouse and run off my own copies for 50 cents a copy. She explained that everyone is overworked and they don't have a genealogist so it is left up to her helper, Joyce. (It sounds like Joyce had a good thing going...). 1. You either paid exhorbitant prices, (4 times what it costs to run off copies) for her "research" ; or, 2. You gave up and let her keep the pittance that you had already sent in. Your best bet, Gary, is to call Mary Hampton and tell her what has happened. I don't think she does the actual billing. Plus, there's an election coming up; and, I'm sure she would be more than willing to help anyone right now. Believe it or not, she even gave me her home phone. If you call the courthouse, tell the operator that you DO NOT WISH TO SPEAK TO JOYCE. It's long distance, but worth it. If Mary Hampton is not there, ask her to return your call. 309 547-3041 is the courthouse. Her home phone is 309 649-1124. Good Luck. Judith Goodwin
