    3. I continue to search for parents or siblings of my g g grandfather, David W. SMITH who m. Elizabeth BAUGHMAN (daughter of John Jacob BAUGHMAN and Anna Barbara FAST) in Lewistown on 27 August 1847. Their first child was b. in/near Fiatt; their second in IA but they returned to Fulton Co. living there until moving to Bates Co. MO in 1873. There were land transactions in IL and MO between David SMITH and the MARTIN and CUNNINGHAM families. David's obituary in 1899 states that he was "born in OH in 1822 to parents from VA, moved when he was four years of age to IN with his parents and on to IL when he was 21". Should it provide clues due to naming patterns his children were: John J., William A., Jacob H (my great grandfather), Gideon, Barbara Ann (Barbery), and David Jasper. There may have been others who died in infancy but are unknown to me. Does anyone have a similar migration pattern? Know of any familial connections between or among the SMITH, MARTIN, and CUNNINGHAM families? Could David really have been a SCHMID(T)? Does anyone know of SMITHs/SCHMID(T)s among the Mennonite migrants into Fulton County? I have tried unsuccessfully to link this DAVID to the SMITHs who migrated to Fulton Co. from Washington Co., IN. Is there someone who might know if he does or does not connect? I truly would appreciate ANY clue regardless of how insignificant it might seem. Gosh I'd like to solve this mystery. By the way, I grew up in Fulton County -- Canton to be exact! I do thank each and every one of you for helping me in this search for information. Beryl Burt bjburt@azstarnet.com
