    1. [ILFULTON] Gragory Family info needed
    2. I am always encouraged by the response to posts made to this web site, and would like to add my queries to those already posted. Oscar Y. Gregory moved from Fillmore, MO to Canton (Fulton County) IL in about June, 1852. It appears that he was in that area for about 2 years before returning to Missouri. Since he was not living in Illinois during a census period, I am at a loss about how to track him. It is not known whether he purchased a farm, or whether he only speculated on farm crops and livestock. (Based on other info, he seemed to be a speculator more than a farmer by temperament) How large of a place was Canton in that era? Was it a location where a livestock speculator might have been likely to settle? Why? Was there something in Canton's history that was important enough to draw settlers back from out west, (MO) during that period? Does anyone know of any major trail that Canton lays on that extended into northern MO? Does anyone have any ideas about how I might proceed with my investigation of this family? Are there Gregory families still living in the area? Is there a good library in the area that I might contact? What is the address of the Historical society for Fulton County--any email address? I would appreciate any help/info and am willing to share any info that I have about the Gregory family. Wayne Gilbert [email protected]
