Dear Listers: I am trying to find out from WHERE in Ohio the Samuel and Elizabeth Mason family came from to Fulton County. Their first three children were born there: John b. 1839, Sarah J. b. 1841, Lavina b. 1852. The rest of the children were born in Fulton County: Abigail b. 1845, Charles N. b. 1846, Howard b. 1850, James b. 1853, Tabitha b. 1856, Jackson 1858, Dewitt Charles b. 1862 They were in Buckhart in the 1850 census and in Putman in the 1860, 1870, 1880 censuses. Also, what cemeterie(s) would they have been buried in? Samuel died 16 Aug 1873 but I don't know where he and Elizabeth are buried. Thanking you all for whatever help you can give us. Janice, I checked for all individuals named Sam* (Sam, Samuel, etc.) Mason in the 1840 Ohio census. Of nine possibilities, two had one male under age 5 (John?). They were in: Portage County, Ohio Miller Township, Knox County, Ohio In both cases, there was a male and female of an age consistent with that of Samuel and Elizabeth. I can email the images if you want. You might see what you can find out in these counties. If you know the mother's (Elizabeth's) maiden name, it might help to see if that name is present in either of those counties. They only way to find out where they started was the 1840 Census since you indicated that they had only one son at that time. Two out of sixteen Samuel Masons fit that description: Samuel MASON, Miller Twp, Knox Co., Ohio Samuel MASON, Ravina Village, Portage Co., Ohio.
