ISHAM GILLHAM3DAVIDSON (WILLIAM COKE2, JOHN1) was born 11 Nov 1802 in SC, and died 17 Jan 1876 in Lewiston, Fulton Co., IL. He married SARAH ANN SPRINGER 04 Oct 1826 in Madison Co., IL. She was born 02 Jun 1810 in Washington Co., KY, and died 28 Apr 1893 in Lewiston, Fulton Co., IL. Notes for ISHAM GILLHAM DAVIDSON: Per Broderbund's World Family Tree, Pedigree 4989, (Volume 1) relates the following: The town of Petersburg, Illinois was surveyed by Abraham Lincoln and the replat recorded on 22 February 1836. The following year, 1837, three brothers, Isom/Isham Gillham Davidson; George A. Davidson; and Andrew Jackson Davidson built a house on the corner of 7th Street and Lincoln Avenue, then called Spring and Main Streets. They had first gone to Menard County, Illinois from Kentucky and were among the first merchants of Petersburg. They had first gone to Greenville, Illinois, coming to Mernard county around 1834-35. George Davidson eventually moved to Greenview and Isham Davidson moved to Fulton County. They were somehow related to John Taylor who was one of the founders of Petersburg. Source: Menard County History, printed by the Taylor Publishing Company, Dallas, Texas. Madison County marriage license #555 issued for marriage of Isham and Sarah. About 1835, Isham sold his farm in Madison County, Illinois and moved to Petersburg, Illinois where he had a store and a flour mill. The flour mill was destroyed in a fire and the store did not survive the depression of 1837. He then obtained the contract to carry mail from Springfield to Lewiston, Illinois, the terminus of his mail route. In 1838 he moved to Lewiston where he lived the rest of his life. With the coming of the railroads, he worked on mail cars. A grandson, J.M.D. Davidson, remembered riding with him on his mail run. Isham was buried in the cemetery in Lewiston, Illinois. 5.
