Max, Here is some from Richard Brady's research: “After Mathew Hixson and his wife Catherine received a letter of dismissal from the Old Baptist Church in Amwell (This was in Hunterdon Co., NJ) in 1805, they started their westward travels with their two youngest sons. With Joel and Mathew Jr., they moved west through Pennsylvania by wagon train to Pittsburg, then floated down the Ohio River to Cincinnati. About 1810, Mathew’s two oldest sons, James and Richard, moved to this same area.” Also from Richard Brady Hixson: “In 1814, Mathew and his son, James, bought 56 acres of land in Section 937, Miami twp., Clermont Co., OH. Their property was just east of Milford, OH, northeast of Cincinnati. Mathew raised his two youngest sons here. There is no more information about Mathew's wife Catherine (nee Hogg), and she is not found in the 1820 census.” I am thinking, just by looking at the dates, that Mathew Sr's son, James, could be a candidate for the father of your Martin. Nothing in Richard Brady's research shows that James had any son named Martin, but he does say that there could be more children. If you are at a brick wall, then maybe a little looking around in Clermont Co,. OH might shed some light. James married Abigale Marts in 1807 in Amwell, Hunterdon Co., NJ. They had these children: Emanuel, Catherine, Mary, Keziah, and maybe another daughter, at least. The only date given here is that Mary was born in 1822. Mary married twice to William Mitchell and then to William Peed. Goodf luck!
