Due to the gravity of the budget deficit in Washington State, Governor Gary Locke wishes to close the State Library. In contrast the Republican Caucuses "only" want to close it to the general public. Their proposal will keep the library open for their research. The State Library possesses a variety of unique genealogical resources. Closure would hinder research in the Washington and the Pacific Northwest.
