Hi Listers, I just got my hands on a privately-published paperback book (1984, 117pp.) called "First 90 Years with 'Squeeze'"by Charles "Squeeze" WALKER -- anybody familiar with this little gem? It contains his fascinating and charming early memories of Fulton Co. (especially Smithfield, Seville, and Marietta), Peoria, Topeka, and many other places in Illinois and some in other states. He says he was 86 years old on 1/1/1978, so I take it he was born in about 1892. He mentions that his family home in Marietta was located at "Lincoln and Adams."Says they moved to Peoria from Fulton Co. when he was about 5, but he must have visited Fulton a lot after that judging from all the stories mentioning Canton, Fairview, etc. I have just begun to glance through this sweet little book, but wanted to alert you all to it, especially the WALKER researchers among you. Hope to compare notes with some of you, and to find a good way to share his wonderful memories with all of you. I definitely get the feeling that he would want you to hear his stories! Yours, Alice
Correction: His "Lincoln and Adams" address was in Peoria. He moved around a lot! --Alice Alice Imig Stipak wrote: > Hi Listers, > > I just got my hands on a privately-published paperback book (1984, > 117pp.) called "First 90 Years with 'Squeeze'"by Charles "Squeeze" > WALKER -- anybody familiar with this little gem? > > It contains his fascinating and charming early memories of Fulton Co. > (especially Smithfield, Seville, and Marietta), Peoria, Topeka, and > many other places in Illinois and some in other states. > > He says he was 86 years old on 1/1/1978, so I take it he was born in > about 1892. > > He mentions that his family home in Marietta was located at "Lincoln > and Adams."Says they moved to Peoria from Fulton Co. when he was about > 5, but he must have visited Fulton a lot after that judging from all > the stories mentioning Canton, Fairview, etc. > > I have just begun to glance through this sweet little book, but wanted > to alert you all to it, especially the WALKER researchers among you. > Hope to compare notes with some of you, and to find a good way to > share his wonderful memories with all of you.
