Elizabeth was a daughter of his first wife? Isaac was the "baby" of the family. I have more on David and John and some of the earlier ones so I'll look forward to your postings. Cheryl
I do not think it is a problem with polygamy that was discontinued over 40 years ago. Also I don't think its a problem of bigamy. However, it is often the case that they need to prove that the Sarah Stout who married David Clark was really the same person as the Sarah Wimans who married Anthony Stout. According to check of the on line info Antony Stout married a Sarah Royal. No dates on Antony but the second husband of Sarah is lsited as Isaac Clark. It also shows his son David married Sarah Fuller. So manybe the problem is that they have two sets of claimants and its up to the applicants to find the proof to prove which is correct. Julia
Isaac Clark was my paternal 3rd great-grandfather. I descend through his daughter Elizabeth ( Betsy ) who married Enos Jewell. Enos and Becky had a son named John F. Jewell and my grandmother was a daughter of John F. Jewell ( Minnie M. Jewell ) Minnie had a brother William S. Jewell who was a lawyer, judge, state senator and was very well known in Fulton County, Illinois. I'd like to do some postings on my JEWELL and CLARK family soon. Eddy A. A few thoughts on posting: 1. It is helpful if you edit the subject line to reflect the subject of your post. Some people are only getting the subject lines so if you want them to read the actual message you need to indicate the actual subject. They probably don't read all messages. If you are searching for John Jones make John Jones your subject. This is also helpful to people searching the list archives. 2. Please don't post your home address or your phone number to the list. While only members can read the list ANYONE can read the archives of the list. It only takes one creep to mess things up. 3. As long as it relates to Fulton County share your response on the list. Think of yourself reading the archives. You finally find the person you are looking for and there is no reply because the reply was posted off list. Bummer. Be kind to future researchers. Reply on the list. If you want to talk about Texas reply off the list. :-) Cheryl Rothwell ILGenWeb Regional Coordinator
I am a double descendant of David and Sarah Winans Clark. The Clarks are very tricky. There are multiple David Clarks and multiple Sarah Winans who married Clarks. I'll get back to you off on the details of those Clarks who were never in Fulton County. Hannah's mother married Isaac in Ohio before they went to Fulton County. Cheryl Rothwell
Hi, Glad to have you aboard. Carol
By any chance anyone have a Ray Clark who died in california? He was accidentally kiled by a gunshot wound-selfinflcited while cleaning. Not sure when he was born or where but he died before 1960. Dear Cheryl, Here's a little post script to my last email. I looked again at your name. "Rothwell" That's certainly a familiar name. I seem to recall both grandmothers in Mt. Pulaski referring to "Keith Rothwell" Is that a relative of yours? If so, when were his dates? One grandmother, incidentally, was Minnie Mayer (David Clark's granddaughter) and the other was Anna Louise Weidenbacher (whose father was in the Civil War and, as I was told by a relative, sewed the flag for Lincoln's Springfield funeral. I haven't been able to come up with any proof of that, however, although I know he became a tailor after coming here from German (to escape the draft) and then being drafted into the Civil War. Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Wonder if you know of a way to track down that little bit of history as well. ---Marilyn Mayer ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheryl Rothwell" <historysleuth@gmail.com> To: <ILFULTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 16, 2006 2:19 PM Subject: [ILFULTON] Welcome > Please welcome MaryLynne Perkins-Ellis as the new CC of Fulton County > ILGenWeb. Hi, Just got the email about "researching descendants of David and Sarah Winans Clark..." Can you elaborate? I'm something of a novice to this site, so I'm not sure how it works. However, I AM a descendant of David and Sarah Winans Clark and am very interested in any genealogy that is being put together. I've reached a stumbling block with DAR over the death of Anthony Stout, Sarah's father. He seems to have died in Ohio around 1810, but there are no records, and his wife went on to marry Isaac Clark--while her daughter married David. DAR wants death certificate or proof of Anthony's death (probably thinking poor "Sally", Sarah's mom, committed polygamy. Not so. But I think record keeping in the West was a little more primitive than in the East at that time. Thanks for any help you can provide. And I can provide a lot of stuff myself. I've got all the handwritten research that David Clark put together, and then Robert, for the family--but DAR doesn't seem to recognize these family records. Or maybe I'm overstating the case. ---Marilyn Mayer Wiedemann 630-858-2091 p.s. for whom are you researching the David and Sarah Winans Clark information? Just curious. Another relative I don't know about???? That would be fun to find. I've had to back off research because of some other business here at home, but I'd love to get it all straightened out. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheryl Rothwell" <historysleuth@gmail.com> To: <ILFULTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 16, 2006 2:19 PM Subject: [ILFULTON] Welcome > Please welcome MaryLynne Perkins-Ellis as the new CC of Fulton County > ILGenWeb. Janice, I checked for all individuals named Sam* (Sam, Samuel, etc.) Mason in the 1840 Ohio census. Of nine possibilities, two had one male under age 5 (John?). They were in: Portage County, Ohio Miller Township, Knox County, Ohio In both cases, there was a male and female of an age consistent with that of Samuel and Elizabeth. I can email the images if you want. You might see what you can find out in these counties. If you know the mother's (Elizabeth's) maiden name, it might help to see if that name is present in either of those counties. Hello Everyone, I am interested in learning more about any of the Yarrington families of Bureau Co., IL. They possibly were in Fulton Co., IL as well. I am trying to see if there is a connection between our Elizabeth (Waninto) married to Mordecai Ogle of Fulton Co., IL. It is possible that Elizabeth is a Elizabeth Yarrington not Waninto. Thank You, Debbie Freeman

Hi. I have just found some useful information from my great-grandfather's obituary to help me find his parents. This is a little complicated, but please bear with me. My great-grandfather was born John Elvis Moore on 13 May 1861 in Canton, Fulton, IL. He was the first of five children and the only male. His sisters were: Laura Belle Moore, b. abt. 1862 Naomi Moore, b. abt. 1864 Alice L. Moore, b. abt. 1867 Margaret L. Moore, abt. 1869 In the 1870 Census, all of these children show up living with a John S. Williams (b. 1834 in PA) and his wife, Mary C. Barnard Williams (b. 1837 in Roodhouse, Greene, IL). In this census, John and Mary are living in Jerseyville, Jersey, IL. The children are all listed by their birth surname of Moore. In the 1880 Census, John and Mary Williams are living in Morgan County. All of the children are still with them, but in this census, they are all using the adopted surname of Williams. I have asked for a search of guardianship papers for these children in Jersey, Brown, and Morgan counties. So far, no guardianship papers and any adoption papers are sealed. I am hoping someone on this list recognizes these names and can tell me who the parents to these children are. Any information or even good guesses are appreciated. Sincerely, Myra in Arizona

In my continuing effort to find information about Lewis F. Smith and his wife Mary E. Grigsby SMITH I found this on the Illinois Death Index. I think it is the correct one but it doesn't list a township, but they did live at Lewistown in 1900 and 1910. I hope someone can find an obituary for her: Died 14 September 1937.
