    1. Wm. Thos. Furgerson, 1859
    2. Barbara Bowman
    3. Hi! I'm new to the list. I'm researching my ancestor, William Thomas FURGERSON/FURGUSON/FERGUSON. I'm at a "dead" end (pardon the pun! ;^O ) Here are the limited details: Wm. Thos. Furgerson b? in? m Elisabeth "Betsey" Stufflebeam MEDFORD ca 1850 in ? d 1/1859-8/1860 in Fulton Co, IL Three children: Priscilla b 12-22-1851 poss. in MO. m John SCALF 11-12-1866 in Lewiston, Fulton, IL d1-24-1934, Lewiston, Fulton, IL John William (Bud) b2-12-1857 Lewiston, IL m Lucinda EVELAND 12-3-1878 Mason Co, IA d 1918 Mary Helen (Ellen) b 10-4-1859 Lewiston IL m John Francis SCALF ca 1875 in ? d 3-9-1944 Oakland, CA No tax or land records, no cemetery records. Not on mortality schedule. I'll check newspaper obits next, but other than that, I have no clue. I know he existed, though. There's got to be something somewhere. If anyone has any clues or ideas, please pass them along. The only way I found that he died in Fulton Co is a descendant of his daughter Priscilla told me he died there. This cousin has not answered my letters for a year and he was in poor health and elderly. I'm afraid he took the precious info with him. He had tons of family history, but almost nothing on the Furgerson branch. If you need names of descendants, please let me know. Please help if you can!! -- Barbara, San Francisco Bay Area ICQ: 6471339 mailto:thenest@cwnet.com

    1. more on James LOVELL
    2. To add to my previous post on James LOVELL p. 329 1850 census Fulton Co., IL, Pleasant twp.: on p 330 of the same cen., same place (again this is the page # for the transcribed copy, not the microfilm) there is a large LITTLETON fx.: Fieldon LITTLETON 53, b KY, could possibly be the f/o Mary Ann LITTLETON who marr. James LOVELL in 1847. Fieldon is listed as # 19 so he's not living very far away from James & Mary A. (# 2). His children's bplaces fit w. Mary Ann, b IL in abt 1831. Then in 1870. Census of Fulton Co., IL Pleasant twp. p 45 (transcribed copy) dw 227 fx 222 LOVELL, James 60 m farmer $36000-2916 VA. , Mary A. 38 f IL , Mary J. 18 f IL , James 16 m IL , Stephen 14 m IL , Samuel 12 m IL , Charles 10 m IL , Frank 4 m IL , Altey 2 m (?) IL GAMBELL, James 26 m works on farm Pa This appears to be the same fx from the 1850 cen. with more children. The above 16yr. old James is a good bet for your James b 1853. Again, there are LITTLETONs very close (next door & 2 hh away.) Also other LOVELLs (including a Solomon, 38, & his fx. who is likely the 19 yr old Solomon in the 1850 hh of James & Mary A).....Regards, Barbara beeezeee@aol.com

    1. Re: LOVELL
    2. I am not researching this line but found this: In the 1850 census for Pleasant twp., Fulton Co., IL (that's the twp. where Ipava is located) p 329 of transcribed copy (so there may be errors.) This is NOT the microfilm page #. fx # 2 LOVELL, James 40 m farmer val. r.e. $ 3000 b VA , Mary A. 19 f IL , Soloman 19 m farmer Ohio , Alina 13 f IL , William 11 m IL , John F. 6/12 m IL It looks to me like this James had an earlier wife. If the Mary A. shown is his 2nd wife, this marriage record might relate: Marriages, Fulton Co. IL vol A,B,C, 1824-1861 p.249 LOVELL, James to LITTLETON, Mary Ann Nov. 4, 1847 vol B. p72; license # 154 There is an older James on p 406 (transcribed copy) of the 1850 cen. but in Woodland twp.: fx 54 LOVELL, James 69 m farmer VA , Ruth 71 f VA. They are living next door to a large LOVELL fx: Samuel, 43, b VA whose children seem to indicate the same migration pattern of Va> Ohio> IL & at the same time as do the children of James on p. 329. Hope this helps...Barbara beeezeee@aol.com In a message dated 98-07-08 23:05:57 EDT, you write: << Hi I hope I'm doing this right. Thomas had a law firm in London Mills, Fulton Co. Illinois & was in partnership with his son Stockton who was also the administrator of his will. It appears he signed his will on his death bed & the children had a few things to say about it, thank god. Otherwise I wonder if I would have ever found them were it not for all of the court papers. The children at the time of his death were spread out into Iowa, Missouri, Kansas & some stayed in Illinois. With that many children & descendents I sure hope this sounds familiar to someone that can help with stories & dates to help fill in the gaps. Where would I go to find out about businesses in the late 1800's. Is there a historical society in London Mills or Fulton County ? On our trip to the midwest from New Jersey I was looking at microfilm records & at 4:15pm when I found this file I got goosebumps, but only had 15 minutes before they closed to copy a few records in the IRAD office in Macomb, Ill. Would love to hear from all those missing relatives or anyone that could supply stories. The best part of genealogy work is the personal details & discoveries that are made. Best Regards, Kathy Ross Edwards bkross.edwards@worldnet.att.net

I think you can access their address through the Fulton County page on the US GenWeb. If not, I can look up the address. I have some of their marriage books, and their publications are very well put together. Linda

    3. I want to research land sales and transfers in Fulton County. Has anyone done this? I'm very interested in the procedures for using records stored at the courthouse. I've heard that access is restricted to older records unless you have the help of a volunteer from the genealogy society. Is this currently the case, and, if it is, how can you arrange to get assistance? All information will be appreciated. Sandy Broda sbroda@wmrc.hazard.uiuc.edu

    3. Seeking information on a John Krider (or spelled similiar) that came to Fulton Co., IL. in 1835, bringing most of his family with him, from Washington Co., PA. I am trying to establish who the parents were of my Samuel Kreider (also spelled with variants, even on marriage license) who came with his parents from PA. to Fulton Co. in 1835. Does anyone out there know if John was his father, or if the George that was listed in Fulton Co. in 1840 census was his father? Samuel named a son John, also a son George. Thanks, Dianne Croak
