    2. Hello: Still hoping to link with someone also researching Gillett's from Fulton County. I think Juda (Judith?) Gillett wound up going to the California Gold Fields with son Randolph Gillett in the 1860's as an old woman. She is buried in Humboldt County. She was a McClaskey, m. Samuel Gillet probably in WVA, from their to Meigs Co OH and then to Warsaw IL and then to Canton area I think. A daughter married Jerome Lane in Fulton County. Son Jasper William became a doctor and died in Parsons KS. Married Martha Michel. Maureen Solomon

    3. Each county will handle wills differently. I have gone into a clerks office and asked for the will-it has been given me to go thru- I chose what I wanted to copy, and copied it myself. I have written/emailed/phoned to find how many pages and the cost per page-which varies from .20 to 3.00/page. My first experience gave me some insight as to what the office must deal with. The will packet could hold a page or two, however my first one contained every receipt from anyone who had anything to do with the estate, the sale of personal property, fees, newspaper articles about the sale, and the death of the person-I could go on. I spent an afternoon with one packet, carefully unfolding and re-folding each piece of the nearly 100 year old packet. If there is only one copier available, and they do the copying, then they must stop to do their work, tend to customers who come in to pay fines, taxes, answer the phone, etc. Usually we "Rooters" are after names. If you tell them it is for genealogical purposes, they could go to the larger pieces of paper which, hopefully will contain those valuable names we are all looking for. 3. My experience with ordering Fulton County wills was similar to yours. I never did receive a reply as to cost, etc., though I had provided a stamped self-addressed envelope. But, lo and behold, about six months after I had written to them, I received a very large envelope with the two wills I had inquired about and a bill for $18. I know $18 sounds like a lot, but there were probably about 60 pages for the two wills and lots of very good information, so it was worth it. 1. Re: Wills
    2. Hi, Gary and Listers, There is a problem getting Wills from the Leiwstown Courthouse. I called Mary Hampton twice. She was apologetic both times and guaranteed that my requests would be honored. (My requests and payments had been sent many months before I called). When I didn't receive anything after another month I called again. This time I did receive some of the Wills I had requested and paid for, plus a rather curt letter explaining that they have other work to do; these Wills are copied at their convenience and if I want "complete" Wills I should be prepared to pay $30-50 for the additional paperwork. Obviously, I haven't sent in any requests since then, although there are dozens that I need. Maybe if enough people complain they will get more help. Good Luck......
