    1. BELVILLE obituary
    2. I am trying to find an obituary and a marriage certificate for a George P. Belville and an Elizabeth Belville. She was the widow of James Belville and her and George were married in 1880 or 1890. George's obit states they were married in 1890 but I have a feeling they were married in 1880. George was born in Fulton County so that is why I think maybe they might have went back there to get married. I have checked the surrounding counties for a marriage certificate for 1890 with no luck. Elizabeth died on Jan 23, 1906. I cannot find her death certificate or her obituary. I did have a lot of family that lived in the Astoria area and went to church around there and I was hoping someone could help me out with this. Thank you so much, Carolyn Belville Barrett

    3. Hello, I am looking for information about a Charles Brown who married Mary Wilson. There is a Charles Brown buried in Cuba Cemetery but I don't know if it is the same one. My Charles was living in McDonough County in 1860 but later moved to Fulton County. The 1860 Census stated that he was born in Kentucky. His daughter, Alice Amanda Brown married J.C. Ararat Hinderliter. These two were my great grandparents. Alice Amanda (Mandy) died in 1907 and is buried in Baughman Cemetery. There was also another daughter, Sarah Catherine (Cate) Brown who married a Milton Gray and they are also buried in Cuba cemetery. These two girls were the youngest of the family. I believe there was also a brother, James and another Charles. Anyone with information about these BROWN people please contact me. ---------- > From: HLASCARLET@aol.com > To: ILFULTON-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Jacob BROWN > Date: Sunday, August 08, 1999 10:08 PM > > In a message dated 8/8/99 Bertha Emmett <sigler@ivnet.com> writes: > Brown is listed. 1. Lucy J. ROBERTS m.John A .DURLAND
    2. Alice Stipak
    3. Hi All, Here's Lucy J. ROBERTS John A .DURLAND! I found this at: http://www.ukans.edu/carrie/kancoll/andreas_ne/seward/seward-p7.html frome "Andreas' History of the State of Nebraska: Seward County," produced by Jeanne Walsh. Regards, Alice "JOHN A .DURLAND, farmer and stock-raiser, Section 35, Town 12, Range 2 east, P. O. Staplehurst, was born in New Jersey, October 23, 1839, being the son of John N. and Sarah A. Durland, the former of German and the latter of Scotch descent. His mother's maiden name was Wolfe. When John A. was quite a small child, they came West to Fulton County, IL, and his father being a miller by trade, followed that occupation, in connection with farming. The subject of this sketch also engaged in agricultural pursuits in that State until he came to Nebraska, which was in the spring of 1865, and in May of the same year took up a claim, being the farm on which he now lives. In the following August, he moved his family on to it, and was the first settler in C Precinct. Mr. D has seen a good deal of pioneer life, beginning with a small log shanty on the south bank of the Big Blue River, but that has since been replaced by a comfortable two story frame dwelling, 28 x 32. His farm contains 240 acres, 140 of which are under cultivation and well improved. He organized the first school district in C Precinct and was the first Treasurer of the same. Was married in Fulton County, Ill., March 31, 1859, to Miss Lucy J. Roberts, who was born there, and by whom he has five children living--George B., Samuel C., Rosie B., Albert E. and Charley A. The third child, Rosie B., was the first white child born in C Precinct, May 26, 1867."

    3. Dear Maureen, Barbara, and All, Got something for you on John ROBERTS! I found this at: http://www.ukans.edu/carrie/kancoll/andreas_ne/seward/seward-p5.html frome "Andreas' History of the State of Nebraska: Seward County," produced by Jeanne Walsh. Hope it is of interest! Regards, Alice >Barb: Saw your message. Where did your John Roberts come from prior to IL? >There are a bunch of us researching the Roberts family from VA to WV ca 1800, >some went on to IA, etc. Lots of Johns of course. >Maureen "JOHN ROBERTS, farmer, Section 17, G Precinct, was born in Henry County, Ky., on the 29th of November, 1813, being the son of John and Catherine Roberts, who were formerly from South Carolina. Owing to their pecuniary circumstances, his parents were unable to give him but a very limited education, and when he reached manhood he commenced farming, which pursuit he followed in his native State until 1835, when he removed with his parents to Illinois, locating in Fulton County, and was among the early settlers of that county. He commenced farming and May 15, 1836, was married to Miss Susan Hall, who was born in Franklin County, Ill., April 30, 1818, and is a daughter of John and Prudence Hall, who were among the very early settlers of that county, being originally from Georgia. The subject of this sketch made his home in Illinois, until the spring of 1866, when he came West to Nebraska and took up a homestead on Section 20, Town 11, Range 3 east, G Precinct, which now forms what is known as the Roberts & Harris Addition to the city of Seward, they being proprietors of the same. Mr. R voted at the first election in the county, which was held in the fall of 1866, at the town of Seward, and consisted of fourteen votes. In 1868, during the month of June, he erected the first building in the town of Seward, which was a store, and occupied by Beatty & Davis. He acted as Assessor in 1867, being appointed by the Commissioners, his territory consisting of half the county. In those early times he had to go to Nebraska City for all family supplies, and paid $80 per 1,000 for flooring to put in his building, which he hauled by ox team from Nebraska City, taking a week to make the trip."

    3. Hi Barbara, This is the first I've seen of the Mr. and Mrs. John ROBERTS, Jr. who moved in a wagon train to Seward Co., Nebraska with my relatives. Unfortunately, I do not have my hands on that whole book yet, just the article so far. So no, I have nothing more about them YET. However, let's keep in touch as I continue to research Seward Co. There is a lot of information available about the early pioneers of that county, including biographies, photos, and cemetery inscriptions, some online at Rootsweb. I will be going, I hope, to Seward on a research trip this fall, and will try to keep your question in mind. It wouldn't hurt to remind me once in a while, though! Were your Roberts in Fulton Co.? I could use a few of their names to help me watch for their namesakes in Seward Co. Thanks, Alice > >Do you have any more information on Mr& Mrs. John Roberts Jr.?
