Sorry, I sent the message by mistake before finishing! In researching at the LDS family history center I found Eliga Mustard listed as having been born abt. 1868 in Erie PA? So I am not real certain on his history. Does anyone on the list have any MUSTARD lines or info. in Fulton Cnty.? Any and all help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roberta Vancouver, WA
Hello, This is my first time posting to this list. I am looking for any information regarding MUSTARD families in the Fulton County area. My Ggrandmother was Florence Edna MUSTARD b. 10/1895. Her parents were Eliga MUSTARD b. 8/1873 and Melinda (Brady) Mustard b. 4/1877. This info. is from the 1900 census. It also states that all were born in IL, and that Eliga & Melinda's parents were born in IL. According to Florence's SSDI info. she was born in Lewiston IL.

To Whom Ever It Concerns: I have written to Bob Miller and gotten his reply twice but I cannot download his e-mail. I don't know what kind of problem I am having with this PC but kept getting an illegal sign on his e-mail and lost all e-mail and etc for awhile. I still get the illegal sign or notice when I try to open or delete his e-mail. Could someone else help me with affidavits? I need to know where and how to obtain copies and cost. I would also like to see if someone could give me information on the Foot/Foote family that lived in Fulton Co Illinois mid to late 1800's. Thank you very much Patricia Wheeler in Missouri
I followed the advice given by some of the ILFULTON group. I found the name of Mary Hampton's boss, and contacted him. And, yesterday, Mary Hampton called me (Long distance-her dime), and apologized for all the grief her 'deputy' had put me through. She agreed that Joyce Putman is NOT doing research, and that she was wrong to tell me to go through the Fulton County Genealogical Society, and that she had no legal right to withhold public information from anyone. Therefore, Mary Hampton has promised that I will recieve these Wills ordered in June and I won't have to pay any more money. I told her I had visited the courthouse and run off my own copies for 50 cents a copy. She explained that everyone is overworked and they don't have a genealogist so it is left up to her helper, Joyce. (It sounds like Joyce had a good thing going...). 1. You either paid exhorbitant prices, (4 times what it costs to run off copies) for her "research" ; or, 2. You gave up and let her keep the pittance that you had already sent in. Your best bet, Gary, is to call Mary Hampton and tell her what has happened. I don't think she does the actual billing. Plus, there's an election coming up; and, I'm sure she would be more than willing to help anyone right now. Believe it or not, she even gave me her home phone. If you call the courthouse, tell the operator that you DO NOT WISH TO SPEAK TO JOYCE. It's long distance, but worth it. If Mary Hampton is not there, ask her to return your call. 309 547-3041 is the courthouse. Her home phone is 309 649-1124. Good Luck. Judith Goodwin
I don't live in Fulton Co. but I wonder if folks are aware that they can send a letter to IRAD (IL Regional Archives Depository) with a probate packet number and get copies that way. I just received an ancestor's Fulton Co. probate records, and it took less than two weeks to get it. Copied pages: 47 Cost: 6 bucks! :-) IRAD is a terrific resource and shouldn't be overlooked. http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/data_loc.html (explanation of databases, etc.) You can also write to them for a free informational brochure. On 30 Jan 1999, I sent a letter to Fulton County Court Clerk in Lewistown requesting the cost of a Will/Probate for my ancestor John ORWIG, Sr. I supplied the Packet numbers from an Index (I enclosed a photocopy) I discovered in the Public Library in Cuba, Illinois last summer. I also enclosed a SASE. On 24 Apr 1999, I wrote again that I had not heard from the Clerk. Still no reply. Again I enclosed a SASE. Today, 16 Sep 1999 I received this letter, in the mail, from May C. Hampton, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Fulton County, in one of my SASE: SUBJECT: Probate Research DATE: Sept. 13, 1999 Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you but I have finally located the missing file of John Sr (#1677). Cost of the research will be $32.00 and the cost of the copies you are requesting is $21.00. Please let me know if you still wish all the information on the Orwigs as listed in your 1821-1963 index. Thank you. (signed) Mary C Hampton JP I gave her the Index numbers! There was NO research to be done! All she had to do was use the numbers to pull the correct FILE! She even stated she got the Index numbers from me! What kind of SCAM is going on in this Courthouse? I meet a lot of nice people in Fulton County on my visit in the summer of 1998, but never anyone like this Clerk! If anyone living in Fulton County can share their experiences in dealing with this Clerk, please reply to this list? thanks for listening to me, gary -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gary Barton gbarton@pacbell.net "Its never too late to have a happy childhood." I recently received from Fulton County, IL, the estate papers of Aaron SMITH, d. 18 June 1882, leaving widow, Almira, and children, Rachel, Mary, Jesse, Elizabeth, Thomas, and Franklin. Not my family, but if yours, I would be happy to send the papers (two pages only) to you. Jim in Tallahassee
For what it's worth... I've requested several wills from Fulton County and have received them promptly and courteously. Just my experience. Hi: anyone have access to these for a lookup..James M. Bybee..dies after 1902..or his wife Evaline Bybee dies after 1870? Supposedly buried in Bryant Cemetery? Thanks, Rick.
I'm told that in the records of the "Murphy-Sedgwick Funeral Home" there are possibly references to Mary and Charles Wesley Kirby (or Kerby). Can anyone with access to those records lookup what information may be there about these two and let me know about it? I beleive the two are parents of twin children born in 1891, one of which died in 1892 and the other in 1895. The two children are burried in Stites Cemetery. Their tombstone inscriptions read: (1) Kerby, Frank Leroy (twin) b. 7/16/1891, s/o C & ? Kerby, age 1 mo 15 d. and (2) Kerby, John Leo (twin) b. 7/16/1891, s/o C & ? Kerby, 4 yrs, 19 d. Everything I have points to these two children being the sons of Mary and Charles W. Kerby, except Mary's birthdate. According the Social Securtiy records, she was born in 4 Dec 1881. I doubt she bore twins at age 9.
Am looking for information on Delilah Groff Wilson who died 1935 at her home in Astoria, Fulton Co., Illinois. Also looking for information on her mother, Catherine Groff, who may have died about 1918 in Fulton Co., Illinois. TIA, marie
I'd like to thank everyone on the ILFULTON List who has offered advice. There were so many of you, that I can't thank each one personally. I did write to the Attorney General; contacted the office of the Representative for all the counties in Illinois and contacted an attorney at the courthouse. I have visited the Fulton County Courthouse and run off copies of Wills which were 50 cents a copy. This particular individual, Joyce, is withholding public information and there is a law protecting consumers against just such behavior. Also, she is merely a copyist. She does no research. And I have contacted Mary Hampton in order to verify that she is allowed to charge for research, when the Packet numbers and page numbers are included. I have little doubt that she will side with her 'deputy', Joyce, so I plan to take it higher still. The fact that Joyce refuses to send these Wills and plans on charging me more than the $30 plus the $10, is ludicrous. All I want is to quietly pursue my hobby, Genealogy. Thanks again, for all the suggestions! Regards, Judith Goodwin
I appreciate your frustration. I have had similar experiences with this same county. But you are making a BIG mistake in not ordering the full probate file instead of just the wills. And the receipts will provide you with how the estate was paid out. You can determine relationships this way. Particularly if you have two people who carry the same name. Children and grandchildren inherit differently through per centages. Please rethink your position. Some probate files run $60-$75 and are full of genealogical information. The larger they are, the more information they will probably contain. I told her I didn't WANT copies of receipts
Hi, List, I just had an unpleasant talk, (long-distance; my expense), with a 'Joyce', who works in the Fulton County Circuit Court under Mary Hampton. I had ordered Wills for Genealogical purposes in 1998; sent a check and waited. The $20 check for 3 Wills was cashed, and I thought 6 months was a little long to hear nothing; So, I called Mary Hampton's office in February of this year. She promised to have someone 'take care of it'. I waited 2 more months and called her again. This time I was told that the girl who handles these requests was on vacation, but she would see to it that I got the Wills. I received them April of 1999. 'Joyce', however, says she sends out Wills within 6weeks. (?) I also received a letter, saying that they weren't sending one of the Wills until they received another $30.00. I figured this was an incentive NOT to get this will, so I declined. I sent in a M.O. for $10 on May 28, 1999 for another Will. request. 'Joyce' took that $10 and applied it to what I would owe if I got the expensive Will which, of course, I didn't receive, and no longer want. It is now September. I called Illinois again and 'Joyce', who talks to criminals the same way she talks to Genealogists, informed me that I should go through the Fulton Co. Genealogical Society if I wanted to order Wills. Excuse me, it's a little late for that. But next time, you bet I will go through the Genealogical Society. I asked her why I hadn't recieved the 1 Will which I sent a $10 M.O. for on June 2,and also, I had sent in another order on July 30, 1999 and still hadn't heard anything from them. She reiterated, that I owed them money for the Will (the $30 one) which was never sent to me; and that the high cost was due to copying all the receipts. I told her I didn't WANT copies of receipts..I wanted to keep the cost down and had stated that in my letter. (She acted as if I was trying to pull a heist) ! I said I didn't want any Will for $30.00.and, please, just send the others! She said I didn't have enough money, as she had already used the $10 M.O. So, she has a check for $30.00 and a request for 7 Wills plus the the extra 8th unpaid for Will. She informed me that I didn't have enough MONEY to cover the cost of 'research'.She will send me a letter, telling me how much I owe her. Are these Wills her personal property? I might mention, I include the PACKET numbers and the PAGE numbers; so, it's a matter of copying these Wills. She said she used the $10 M.O. because that covered her "research". (?) I think it is appalling that this person is responsible for making these copies, handling checks and Money orders and dealing with the public. I am sorry for Fulton County, which I dearly love, and everyone else in the courthouse, as they have always been splendid to deal with... So, if any of you, out there, are waiting for Wills from Fulton County, you might want to call Mary Hampton, the Clerk of the Circuit Court; (you will, of course, get 'Joyce'). The phone number is 309 547-3041. Be prepared; no amount of logic will work; 'you are wrong' and 'Joyce' is holding all the cards. Judith Goodwin Florida (right in the path of the hurricane).
