Looking at the 1880 copy I have-In the lower left hand corner it states: 1880 census index Department of Commerce Bureau of the Census I do not have a copy of the original census. What does the term "nee" stand for after a name? Also, the term "sic"- ? I have an idea-but ... I have had those before!. Jan
When I was at the Natioinal Archives I asked them about the same thing...I was told it meant "Not Reported".
I had myself going on another search! The person in question is my grandfather-when seeing the NR-thinking-Not Related! Then who were his parents? He was less than a year old-did they take him in from another family? I like all your answers better! Thanks! Jan
I assure all of you that 'NR' stands for 'Not Reported.' Along that same topic of Soundex/census, I've run across people who think 'PA' stands for Pennsylvania, but it stands for 'First papers filed.' -- ______________________________________________________________________________ Andrew W. Has anyone ever seen NR written on a census-under relationship? Does it mean, not related? This is from an 1880 census-Soundex Name Relationship age birthplace ex: Smith, Jones NR 10/12 Illinois
Horace If it is on the soundex card it usally means not recorded. But if you look at the actual census rather than a card written by semi-literates 50 years later there are sometimes ditto marks that they didnt read. I havent seen it much on actual census but not related is possible although I have at least one instance where a sister of the head of household's wife and her husband are called boarders rather than sister-in-law so I take that with a grain of salt. Hi Roberta I don't know about Mary Bloyd, she would have been in the right era for our Charity Bloyd. Charity was b-1853, m John A. Mustard in 1871 and d-1899 all in IL. She also remarried a Perry Edwards in 1884 after the death of John. We think her father was Elijah Bloyd and Rebecca and that she had at least a brother George W. Does any of this help. Or anyone else out there who can help? Mary Houser Gresham, Oregon mhouser3@msn.com

Looking for the Parents of ALBERT MITCHELL MILLER. He was born 10/14/1872 in Canton, Illinois. His mother died when he was born. His father may have been a Doctor and it is believed that he died 3 or 4 years after Albert was born. Albert was raised by Wills and Mary J. ( KING ) Hickman who were married in Fulton County on 2/12/1866 and then moved to the Bushnell, Illinois area where Albert was raised. Albert married Gertrue Mae Hayworth and lived in Bushnell, Illinois. He passed away on September 14, 1955 and is buried in the KING plot in the Bushnell Cemetery. I think that Albert may have been born to a sister of Mary J. King Hickman, but have been unable to find ANY information concerning his birth. I would appreciate it if anyone had any possible leads for me to check out. Thanks ! Carolyn J. Miller
Does anybody know about a Jemima GARMORE that married a Lewis RUBLE February 24,1848 in Foulton Co. Il. She was the daughter of Isaac Garmoe. His name was sometimes spelled Garmore in the census tapes. She is the only one of twelve children that I can't find. My great grandfather was one of her brothers. I think that she was about twenty one. The family came to Foulton County Illinois in 1847. They stayed there six months, then went to Jefferson Co Iowa to the Richwoods area. Margaret {Garmoe}Parsons .
Can anyone lookup the following for me in the Barker Cemetery? William Rutledge James Enos Rutledge - probably just listed as Enos Elizabeth Rutledge - could be Mary Elizabeth or Mary Any Williams? Thanks so much! Millie Conrad
Patti: Maybe a look up of the Obituary would give details of the accident which would lead to a look up of the Daily Papers to see how they wrote up the accident. >>>>Mr. Marion C. Johmson, 616 East Spruce St., Canton, IL 61520----Tel#: 309-647-2455 has made a survey of the funeral homes in Fulton County and recorded the deaths each funeral home handled-andmost of them has a short obituary with the recording. Hello, I'm looking for the parents of Mary Bloyd dob. abt1845, Fulton IL, she married David MUSTARD in 1866. Does anyone know if Charity Bloyd was her sister?? Thanks, Roberta in Vancouver

I continue to search for parents or siblings of my g g grandfather, David W. SMITH who m. Elizabeth BAUGHMAN (daughter of John Jacob BAUGHMAN and Anna Barbara FAST) in Lewistown on 27 August 1847. Their first child was b. in/near Fiatt; their second in IA but they returned to Fulton Co. living there until moving to Bates Co. MO in 1873. There were land transactions in IL and MO between David SMITH and the MARTIN and CUNNINGHAM families. David's obituary in 1899 states that he was "born in OH in 1822 to parents from VA, moved when he was four years of age to IN with his parents and on to IL when he was 21". Should it provide clues due to naming patterns his children were: John J., William A., Jacob H (my great grandfather), Gideon, Barbara Ann (Barbery), and David Jasper. There may have been others who died in infancy but are unknown to me. Does anyone have a similar migration pattern? Know of any familial connections between or among the SMITH, MARTIN, and CUNNINGHAM families? Could David really have been a SCHMID(T)? Does anyone know of SMITHs/SCHMID(T)s among the Mennonite migrants into Fulton County? I have tried unsuccessfully to link this DAVID to the SMITHs who migrated to Fulton Co. from Washington Co., IN. Is there someone who might know if he does or does not connect? I truly would appreciate ANY clue regardless of how insignificant it might seem. Gosh I'd like to solve this mystery. By the way, I grew up in Fulton County -- Canton to be exact! I do thank each and every one of you for helping me in this search for information. Beryl Burt bjburt@azstarnet.com
