There is an 1860 census for Fulton Co, IL. Ancestry.com has the whole thing. Unfortunately it is not indexed yet. I would offer to do lookups, but it is 852 pages long, and is not split up into townships. If I happen to get snowed in this week (in Chicago), maybe there is something I can do..... Cathy
I saw Marna's message after I sent off my previous message. As far as I know, there is no published list for the 1860 Fulton County Census. However, there was definitely a census done that year. In addition to the ways I mentioned in the previous message, it can also be viewed on microfilm. Many libraries can obtain these films through interlibrary loans. I have frequently used this service. Also, I believe the films can be obtained through the various LDS libraries which are located throughout the country. I've no experience dealing with them personally, but have been told that they are quite easy to use and the personnel are quite helpful. Gloria
Tere, The latest list of publications I received from the Fulton County Historical and Genealogical Society (FCHGS) shows census information available for the follow: 1830 - Name of head of household only 1840 - Name of head of household only 1850 - Complete census listing in one book 1870 - Full Index in one book plus individual books for the various townships. As far as I know, there is no 1860 census publication from them. There are various online census options but I think you have to be a paying member to have access. The only exception I know of is the 1880 census which the LDS just put online (for free) at their website: www.familysearch.com If you live in an area where the library service is good, you may want to check with your local library to see what they offer. Some areas have access to the "pay for privilege" sites which you can access through library computers. If you are really lucky, some places allow you access through your home computer using your library card number. Access to the full list of publications available and the address for the FCHGS can be found at the USGen Website under Illinois, Fulton County. I don't recall the url offhand and apparently their server is down today. Gloria
I think I read something about not having a 1860 Federal Census a long time ago. Supposedly there was something in 1865. Maybe a county census, or ... ? . Pj

Dear Listers, I am always looking for new ways we can help each other in our Fulton County research. Today, I am pleased to announce that we now have our own, kind, and well-informed Family History Library Liason! Our contact, who we can refer to as "our FHL contact," works inside the main Salt Lake City Family History Library, and has generously agreed to help us in our Fulton Co. research in many ways and on an ongoing basis. Please understand the following about our FHL Contact: 1) Our FHL contact wishes to remain anonymous, and to work only through me, to avoid being overloaded by individual requests for help. 2) He will NOT be responding to specific requests to do research on every Fulton Co. name; that's OUR job. 3) He WILL be working closely with me to provide you with varied and useful information regarding Fulton Co. research, which I will post to this list and on our website, including on a special FHL information page I will create. I think we are very lucky to have this direct contact inside of the Salt Lake City main Family History Library, because we can look forward to being enriched through his special guidance, experience, and resources. I will convey all of his contributions to you, and all of your thanks back to him, as our new relationship develops. My next email will be the "kick-off" of assistance from our new FHL Contact. Best regards, Alice, a grateful great-granddaughter of Fulton Co., IL ILFulton List Administrator and ILFulton County Coordinator

Hi Listers, Thank you for helping Tere with her census question. Now, she has just joined our list, and wants to help us back and join in the sharing. Welcome, Tere!! Hi, everybody-- I subscribe to the Genealogy.com census. It contains the 1860 Fulton County, Illinois, census and purports to have an index. I'll be happy to do look-ups. I'm awfully busy, so I may be kind of slow about it. The county is subdivided into townships, so if they've transcribed your ancestor's name incorrectly, I might still be able to find him/her if you can tell me which township he lived in. Would somebody like to respond to ILFulton website visitor Tere's query? --Alice -------- Original Message -------- [Forwarded to ILFulton list by Alice] Is there a 1860 Fulton Co. IL census available or has it not been transcribed yet? "Tere Skaggs" <[email protected]>
Hi Everyone, Thank you for your many responses to my test messages. Our list is up and working like a charm! Messages from Gloria, Theresa, Kevin, Cathy, and Juanita also came through in the last few days, but that was about it, much less traffic than usual. Guess we were all just busy with our families, and that's great! Hope you all had wonderful Thanksgiving gatherings and meals. The USGenNet server (not our server) is completely down at this time and needs major repairs, but we are NOT affected by that since we are on RootsWeb servers. We are back in full force today. Pj is steadily working on Cass and Harris township pages, Juanita sent me a nice obit for Project Fulton Folk, and I have a backlog of Joan's bios and other great Fulton stuff to process for posting on our website during the next few weeks. Let's see how much Fulton Co. sharing we can get done before we disperse for Christmas! Yours, Alice ILFulton List Administrator and ILFulton County Coordinator
Hope someone can help! I am looking for a John VanBuren Bowman b. abt. 1850 maybe in IL. He married a Mary Francis Carter in McNairy Co. TN and they had a child named George Washington Bowman b. in 1873 McNairy Co. TN. Please Help!
Hi Listers, Apparently RootsWeb has been undergoing repairs which may be why we haven't been getting any messages. So, THIS IS A TEST to see if our mail is getting delivered to our subscribers. Thank you, Alice, ILFulton List Admin
The Fulton County Genealogical Society has published several volumes of cemetery books for Canton: Cemetery-Greenwood Cemetery, Canton (Reconstructed Records) Cemetery-Greenwood Cemetery, Canton 1826-1920 Cemetery-Greenwood Cemetery, Canton 1921-1950 Cemetery-Greenwood Cemetery , Canton 1951-1987 If any of you have access to these books, what is the difference between the first one (the reconstructed records) and the others? Are the last three more complete? Do they contain information not found in the first one? Thanks, Gloria
Valerie, Both the 1920 and the 1930 census' are now indexed for Illinois on Ancestry.com. (I have access to them if you don't) Cathy [email protected]
Hi, I did a little searching and came up with this. Il. marriage index online Etta May LONGWELL m: C.H.WAGNOR Warren Co. IL. 5/15/1903 1930 census only 1 Chas.WAGNER listed Fulton Co. sh.4A Deerfield twp. Chas.WAGNER 65 35 age 1st marriage IL.PA.PA. Ellen 45 15 " " " OH.OH.OH. Orville 22 IL.IL.OH. Sherman 12 IL.IL.OH. I thought it may be the family you are looking for and if by chance it is. they are most likely buried in the Wiley Cem.Deerfield twp. Sherman passed away a few years ago and is buried there and I am pretty sure his parents are. I couldn't find a LONGWELL/INGRAM marriage in the IL. marriage index. Hope this is of some help.
