Linda, There are 27 Roy Baxters in the 1920 census, and 89 in 1930. If you give me a little more info, ie birth date, birth state or middle name, I will check some of them. I didn't find any in Illinois on the 1870, 1900 or 1910 census. There are three on the Family Search site for 1880 - they live in Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. Cathy [email protected]

Can someone tell me how to contact the Harris Township Cemetery Board? Thanks!
Looking for any information on the Milo BUSHNELL family. His wife Nellie Elizabeth was the daughter of William and Elizabeth STINE MORNINGSTAR and was born 24 Oct 1865. Milo, born 27 Feb 1966 in Schuyler Co, was the son of Annanias & Lydia WINNER BUSHNELL. He died 25 Jan 1921, Nellie died 12 Jan 1936, both in Woodland Twp. Milo's death certificate says he was buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Nellie's death certificate says she was buried in the Summum cemetery. Can anyone verify this for me? Are there any other Bushnells buried in either cemetery? How about Morningstars? Roy BUSHNELL, of Astoria, IL was the informant for Milo's death.
Hi, I'm looking for burials in the Woodland Twp. Cemeteries of Mt. Zion and Summum for any BUSHNELL families. Can anyone please help??
The only David Hilton on the 1870 Illinois Census is in Grundy Co, is 38 yo and married to an Emily. There is no Sarah listed. And I checked Hilten, Helton and Helten - no Davids. I did find Betsy Hilton, 76 yo, living with Stephen and Besty Call. Cathy
Friends and fellow researchers If some has the time, I' would like a favor. I need two/three lookups. (1) In the Murphy-Sedgwick Funeral Home Records, I need Vol 5, P 215. (2 & 3) From the County Recorders Office, I am looking for the date when Charles F. Ulm and Joseph R. Ulm first moved to Fulton County. The time period would be 1880 - 1890. I only need to know which one was their first and I don't need a copy of the purchase of property. If I have a volume and page number, I can contact the Recorder's Office personally. Thanks, Jim
Does anyone have access to the 1870 census (or later) for a Roy Baxter, or Annabelle Atherton Baxter, or Anna Belle Baxter Callihan? I would appreciate it and thanks so much. Linda
Thanks to all who have responded to my querry. I now have more questions than answers, but what's new? This is what I know about the line I am trying to figure out: David HILTON [b. ME] m. Betsy [ca. 1796 ME -aft 1880] ch. Betsy Ann HILTON [1830 OH -1886] m. Stephen CALL [1824 NY -1893] David HILTON [1827 OH -1896] m. Sarah Ann BISHOP [1831OH -1903] ch. Cyrus H. HILTON [1853-1926] m. Sarah Ann FOXWORTHY [1855-1926 / d/o Joseph FOXWORTHY & Mary Jane STRODE]] John Wesley HILTON [1862-1898] Jesse HILTON [ca. 1866-?] Martin Luther HILTON [1867-1935] m. Mabel ? Betsy HILTON appears w/ Stephen CALL household in 1880 age 86 b. ME The Sarah BISHOP who appears in the 1850 census w/ Spencer COOPER household is definitely the right age for the Sarah Ann who married David HILTON in 1851. Seth HILTON could certainly be a relative of the Davids. But I'm not sure at this point who fits where. It does now look like Sarah BISHOP is possibly not in my line, but that, too, is uncertain. Gee, I'm confused. Carol
Does anyone have a copy of the 1870 Census with a listing for David and Sarah Ann (BISHOP) HILTON and family? They were in Bernadotte twp. in 1880, married in Fulton Co. 1-1-1851. Also, does anyone know who Sarah Ann's parents were? I am trying to connect her with my BISHOP line. Carol in TN
Hello, I am new to the list. I have subscribed in order to try to track down some information on the family of Jay C. and Elizabeth Tompkins who setted in Fulton County circa 1870. They migrated there from Schoharie County, New York. But both were born in Albany County, NY, which is nearby Schoharie County. Unfortunately my notes on the Tompkins are buried with the rest of my files (I am in the middle of a move), so I cannot be more precise. But they would have both been born about 1818-1822. At least one of their children moved with them to Fulton County. I am not related to the Tompkins and I am not exactly doing genealogical work on their family. Rather, I am interested in the Tompkins as part of a history I am writing on the area where they lived in Schoharie County, New York. I am interested in the Tompkins for several reasons. One is that they were very active participants in the 1840s rural uprising known as the Anti-Rent war. (Much of the land in the Albany/Schoharie area was held under leasehold and it was not for sale. The Tompkins and other tenant farmers demanded the right to purchase their land.) I am also interested in trying to figure out what kind of agriculture the Tompkins practiced. I believe that they were cattle/stock farmers, but I am not certain about this. I would appreciate any information that you have on this family. And I am more than happy to dig out my notes and share what I have. Thanks very much Ian McGiver [email protected]
East Galesburg Tribune East Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois June 10, 1899 Carey Thurman, a man well known in the eastern and southern part of the county, is languishing in the Fulton County jail on the charge of murder commited near London Mills last Monday. Albert Hammond, the murdered man, was the son of George Hammond, a well-to-do farmer living near London Mills. Monday young Hammond, in company with other farm hands, was engaged in opening up a water course leading from the Hammond farm across the road west to the H.M. Voorhees farm. Their had been a controversy between the owners of the two farms over the water course for several years. Hammond had ordered his son and the other hired hands to go into the road way and cut open a water way. This the young man had started to do when Thurman and Emery, in the employ of Voorhees, appeared on the scene. Before a hand could be raised to prevent him, Thurman struck young Hammond on the head with a spade. The heel of the tool struck him just acove the right ear, inflicting a fatal wound. Thurman, not! being content with his one victim, attempted to kill the father when he tried to go to his son, who was lying on a pile of sand at the roadside. As Mr. Hammond begged to be permitted to go to his boy, Thurman, who yet held the spade in hand, started for the father and struck him several times about the head and back, and only desisted when the old man ran away. Thurman was soon after arrested. The affair created intense exitement. ***** Galesburg Weekly Mail January 25, 1900 Cary Thurman was sentenced to the penitentiary for ten years by a Fulton county jury at Lewiston Friday for the murder of Albert Hammond near London Mills about a year ago. Ellsworth Emery, who was also charged with Thurman with the same crime, was aquitted by the same jury. Thurman and Emery were digging a ditch near London Mills when Hammond and his father sought to stop the work. The diggers threatened to murder anyone who interfered with them, and when Hammond did so Thurman struck him across the head with his spadfe killing him instantly. Self defense was made the defense in the trial. There was no evidence to show that the murder was premeditated or that Emery was in any manner responsible for it. The community and attorneys are satisfied with the decision. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo.
Thanks, LouAnn, for posting the obituary for Merlin L. Feldner. My husband, Stanley Phillips, is a descendant of James Henry Stanley, Jr. and Lillie Abby (Feldner) Stanley. Lillie is a sister to William Frank Feldner, the father of Leo Feldner. I will be sending a copy of the E-mail to another Feldner researcher who once lived near Chicago but now lives in Scottsdale. Her husband is a descendant of Walter Earl Bugher and Lillie Victoria (Feldner) Bugher; Lillie is a sister of William Frank Feldner. My ancestor was born in Culpeper, Virginia in the 1700's. I have more than a passing interest in its history particularly the Germana Colonies because I found common Fulton County surnames like Martin, Carpenter, Rector, Cannon, Cave, Coons and Miller in these pages. If your FC ancestor was German, he might be in the Colony. They settled in the 1700's and after a few years began to migrate. If you are a history buff, put on a big pot of coffee. You'll need it to read all the information on this site. It's that interesting. http://www.germanna.net and http://www.germanna.com/ http://www.germanna.org is the actual Germanna Colonies official website. Pj
