I am wondering if there's anyone on this list that could tell me if an obituary might exist for Joseph H. Fitch that died Mar 29, 1893, in Fulton Co., IL? Thanks very much! Karen

To MJS, Thanks for your response to my query re: Licking County History. The website Valerie posted takes care the problem. Pat
Valerie, I checked that heritagepursuit website and it has so much information --The whole book of Licking County History! It is so well organized. I don't know yet if I'll find my ancestors there, but many families moved to Knox and Fulton Counties from Licking County, OH. It's a good site to search for those with connections there. Thank you, Pat
Is anyone on this list a descendant of William Miner and Phoebe Rachel Ward? I would like to share info with them. Debbie Harrison
Hi all -- You can find much of the History of Licking Ohio, including early settlers, soldiers, biographies, pioneer families.. etc, at: http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Licking/LickingIndex.htm You will find the pages of the book: HISTORY OF LICKING COUNTY, O. ITS PAST AND PRESENT 1881 For tons of other Ohio county records, visit: http://www.heritagepursuit.com/ My Fulton IL INGRAM family was from Kentucky and Indiana, but my LONGWELL and WINSLOW family was from Licking County Ohio. They migrated from Licking Ohio to Knox county IL and Washington Co IA. Later on, members of these two families met up and married, becoming my ancestors. Have fun and good luck! Valerie
Pat and anyone else whose ancestors came from Ohio: We were in Ohio a couple weeks ago and I picked up a brochure of the Ohio Genealogical Society at one of the welcome centers. It lists their website: www.ogs.org You might check to see if they have the book about Licking County or know where to find it. MJS
There was an error in the link I sent for the Astoria ARgus, it should be www.kkspc.com/argus Anne Marie
On the chance that researches besides me may not have heard about this site, I wanted to pass this address on that I just discovered. The Astoria South Fulton Argus has indexed all the obituaries that appeared in the paper from 1914 to the present. I don't know how I missed this earlier. They even have obits from people that have left the area, and list those that are being returned for burial. The website is www.kkspc.co/argus You can obtain copies of papers published in the past year from them. Now the question, is it possible to get copies from microfilm from teh Shuyler Co Jail Museum? Has anyone used them before? Anne Marie
Pat, I don't won the book. Three or four years ago someone sent me the information I have which is three pages of Licking County history and the marriages I mentioned. The pages of county history I have is more about the general life of the pioneers ie: churches and business than it is about the family histories. Occassionally it contains a comment like Sanuel Parr, the son of the early settler..." or "Moses Meek was the first postmaster at Graviot." According to the book many of the early settlers who came to Bowling Green Township prior to 1815 came from Fayette County, Pennsylvania. That's all I can tell you, sorry. If you want to send the surnames of your collateral families to me privately, I might be able to find a reference in the marriage licenses 1809-1878 but remember the information I have is limited. I have nine pages with approximately 45 names on each page. Pj
Regarding the list of names from Bowling Green and Hopewell Twps in Licking County, Ohio.; I noticed John Berry and some Hulls, who I knew came to Fulton County , as well as names of their extended families. Does this book have more information on the families and where did you find it.? Pat
I am planning on making a trip to Fulton Co. Where is the best place to get information? I know about the Courthouse in Lewistown. Is there a Library in the county that has genealogy information? I am looking to follow up on some English's that I know were on the censuses in 1870 and 1880. I have copies of them. Thank you for any information. Charlotte English. [email protected]
Here is the name of the book, price and phone number to call to order a copy..my article appears on 223-224 and like I said, I do not like what they did when they edited it..my version was more professional, I thought.. The book is "500 Brickwall Solutions to Genealogy Problems" by Family Chronicle, $25.00, 1-888-326-2476, or order office the internet at www.familychronicle.com Happy Hunting, Roxanne Catholics United..join our Pope in wishing for Peace for the human race..May you be blessed today..
While reviewing some information from Licking County, Ohio that I have at home, I realized many of the names familiar to me were not only from this list, but also from living in the surrounding areas near FC for many years. As I found evidence of several of my own ancstors living in this area, I thought I would pass it on. It comes from the book "History of Licking County, Ohio" .. author unknown. LICKING COUNTY, OHIO: Hopewell Townhip: 1816 and after Revs. James Quinn, J. McMahon, Martin Fate, Michael Ellis, Joseph Carper, Abner Goff, Thomas Snelson, Rev. Caves (Cave?), William Baker, Jesse Stith (Smith?), John Parker, and Daniel Schofield, Robert McCracken, Jacob Young, Leroy Swormstead, James B. Finley, C. Springer, and Samuel Hamilton among others were the first ministers and pioneer preachers. Other names found in this township during the same time are Landon Warfield, Adam Smith, David Drumm, James Redman, Samuel Winegarner, Thomas White, Isaac Smith, Henry Claybaugh, Lewis Ijams, William Tucker, Samuel B. Hull, Charles Howard, Joseph Evans, George Hursey, Moses Meek, Nathan Henslee, William Simms, S.R. Tucker, F.F. Dutton, L.A. Stevens, and William Hull. Hull, Thomas Demoss, George Kreger, Daniel Bowman, Abraham Bennett, Samuel Farmer, William Willis, Andrew Livingston, Blois Wright, Alexander, Charles and Zachariah Shaw, Archibald Kelso, and the Gibbons were the early settlers.
For those who have been on the list for some time, you will remember the article I wrote on the migrations of our ancestors..well, surprise, surprise, I finally got my copies of the book my article has appeared in..I let them use my name but not my e-mail address...although I have been writing as a hobby all my life, its only been the last 5 years I took it seriously..I have been published several times now and I still get cold chills seeing my work and name in print. I have lots of order blanks and will get the info off them to give to you should you be interested in the book..I did notice they made a few changes in my wording which all writers have to accept but unfortunately they were important parts to me..I am not happy about the changes, but they did not give any of us gally's to read beforehand..the name of the book is "500 Brickwall Solutions" by Family Chronicle..after I read my own to the whole mobile home park, I scanned over some of the other suggestions and most were very good..some were too simple for me but that is because this is a first book for these people and I have been writing for a professional magazine and things are so much stricter..thought you would be interested in the story I am working on now for NV Magazine..its about my husband's Hispanic grandfather who was an errand boy for Pancho Villa..he also ran messages to the outlying enclaves of men hidden in the local mountains..Grandpa was 12 at the time but considered very valuable and made a lot of money because he could run so fast. This book on brickwall solutions will help both beginner and seasoned researcher. I was wondering if anyone can do an obit lookup. Walter Monn d. Aug. 18, 1957 buried Aug. 21, 1957 Thank you in advance for your time. Danni Hopkins
To the list Is there an individual who has the time to look for the obituary of Jacob Ulm (d 1 June 1909) in the Canton Weekly Register, or another Fulton County paper of that month and year? I attempted to get it on Inter Library Loan, only to be told that the only library that owns it is not doing ILL until January. Thanks, Jim
Thanks to all who responded about the census. I`m stuck on my GGGgrandfather and thought if I could find his fathers` birthplace it would help. As long as I`m here I`ll ask if any one has come across the Neighbours/Neighbors family of Astoria twp? 1850`s thru 1880`s. Allied names are Huff, Myers and Wantz. Thanks, Cathy in Iowa
Birth place of parents did not happen until 1880, the same year they started listing relationship to head of the house hold. Julia
