    3. William Henry Dawson and his 2nd wife Lydia Mae Sparkman were my grandparents. I am the oldest grandchild of their union. Lydia’s birth and death dates are slightly incorrect. Born September 6, 1898, died September 14, 1965. I was always told that grandma (Lydia) was an orphan raised by either her grandmother (?) or great Aunt. I was curious if you or anyone else knew more about her? My mom never knew much and she has passed now. Thank you. Sent from my iPhone

    3. Thank you Very much! I must not have looked at Find A Grave recently. He appears to be the correct Webster Brown. The parents, W and M A Brown seems right. M A most likely would have been Mary Agnes (McMillen) Webster. My guess is that she died giving birth or possibly shortly thereafter. The boy, Webster, was in the census household of Mary Agnes' parents in 1850 and 1860. Life was rough back then. --Jack Trauth -----Original Message----- From: Nadine Heppell <nheppell@comcast.net> To: Fulton Co. 2. Jack Trauth
    3. All-- One of my enduring mysteries regards James Poe McMullen, b 02 Jun 1793, Mercersburg, Franklin Co, PA, d between 1850 and 1860, Fulton Co, IL. His wife was Mary McKinnie, b 17 Jan 1803, Mercersburg, Franklin Co, PA, d sometime after 1860, Fulton Co, IL. His surname was recorded as McMullen / McMullin / McMullan in Pennsylvania. He was in Franklin Co, PA into the 1830s and appeared in Fulton Co, Illinois in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. From that time forward, he was known as McMillen / McMillin / McMillan. I don't know where he was in 1840. Any guidance would be appreciated. I seem to have more questions than answers. --Jack Trauth

    1. [ILFULTON] ASHBY - ARENDS - CLARK Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Miss Mary ASHBY of Lewistown, IL. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Mary likely about 2-3 years old at the time. In addition to her name, someone has written "Baby of the ASHBY'S" and "it was at their house I got my head in the bowl of chicken gravy" and "her brothers were Lemuel and Bruce" and "they are our cousins" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Mary and her family: Mary Edith ASHBY was b. 16 Mar 1891 in Liverpool, IL to parents Wesley Asbury Fulton ASHBY (1849-1929) and Catherine "Cassie" Elizabeth ARENDS (1864 or 1866-1937). Mary was one of 7 children born to this couple including, Mary Edith; Alfred; Anna Priscilla; John Hobart or Hobert; Sylvia; and Hazel Angeline ASHBY, all born between 1891 and 1903. Four additional children were born to her father in a previous marriage, they include, William Bruce; Frederic; Fielding Edgar; and Lemuel Asbury ASHBY, all born between 1876 and 1879. Mary married Samuel Calvin "Saul" CLARK (1888-1970) and they had 7 children including, Roy Clifford; Clarence Edward; Harry Dean; Leslie Alvin; and Marvin W. CLARK along with two others all born between 1912 and 1930. Mary ASHBY CLARK died 14 Mar 1968 in Cuba, IL and is buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Lewistown, IL. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Liverpool, IL: Asbury ASHBY, age 50, born Dec 1849, married 9 years, born IL, parents born NC/KY, a Farmer Catharine ASHBY, wife, age 34, born Mar 1866, married 9 years, 3 children/3 living, born IL, parents born Germany/MO Lemuel A. She was first married to John RUSSELL, Sept. 18, 1838. To this union was born four children: Lucy A., who married the late Charles NEWCOMB. She resides at Middle Grove and is blind from the effect of a kick from a horse. John J. RUSSELL of Kansas City. Harriet BLAKESLEE, now deceased and Jennie, wife of W.W. McSCIMMONS of Cromwell, Iowa. Mr. RUSSELL died in 1848. She was married again to Aaron BEAL, and to this union was born five children: Ida A. wife of G. W. PRATT of Peoria, Alice, wife of J.C. HOXWORTH of Rapatee; Mrs. Clara PALMER, deceased; Lewis BEAL of Peoria, and Oscar, who died in childhood. All of the living children with their husbands and wives were present at the funeral. Mr. BEAL died in 1895, since which time she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Alice HOXWORTH, where everything was done for the mother’s comfort that it was possible to do. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren shared her love, sympathy and confidence in her declining years and during her 71 years of married life. The funeral was held in Rapatee church at 10:30 Sunday morning. Funeral directors Elmiran Morse of Farmington in charge. Rev. Mrs. Elsie Anderson, Free Will Baptist minister of Macomb, preached the sermon and it was very sympathetic. The singing was done by Misses Edna Way, Mame Foster, Rilla and Edith Morse, who sang “It is Well With My Soul,” “Asleep in Jesus”, and “Rock of Ages” in a splendid manner. The honorary pallbearers were Harmon HALL, W.F. HARDON, Millard BRYAN, G.A. TAYLOR, W.H. SWIGERT and William ADAMS. The acting pall bearers were Frank WOOD, Charles NEWCOMB, Wade PRATT, George PALMER, John RUSSELL of Iowa and John RUSSELL of Kansas City, all grandsons of the deceased. The interment was in the Uniontown cemetery, beside her late husband, Aaron BEAL. For a quarter of a century the writer has known of this woman’s life. Truly, it was of a very high character. We all loved her. And she kept up her reading until within a few months of her death, and was well versed in the news of the day. Think of 89 years of usefulness in one life. Three generations of the family were sincere mourners at the funeral. --- Wife of Aaron Wife of 1) John Russell, m. abt 1847, NY, & 2) Aaron Beal, m. Apr 1, 1852, Knox County. Daughter: Clarissa (Dec 9, 1856 to Apr 6, 1879), location unknown, but perhaps same cemetery.
