Kenneth D. Smith, 74, of West Frankfort, Illinois passed away at 5:29 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born October 24, 1938 in Williamson County, Illinois to Raymond and Marguerite (Cardwell) Smith. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Kenneth enjoyed spending time outdoors and sports. He knew no stranger and enjoyed conversing with anyone who crossed his path, but what he treasured most was spending time with his family. He was an avid UMWA member and a member of the National Guard. Mr. Smith was united in marriage to Marilyn Kay Lingle on July 22, 1961. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marguerite Smith; two sisters, Betty June and infant sister; grandson, Michael Dale Smith, Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Juliette (Cook) Lingle. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Kay Smith of West Frankfort; daughter, Lisa Smith of West FrankfortSon, Mike and Joni (Bernhard) Smith of West Frankfort; grandchildren: Abby and Bert Smith; Morgan, Tyson, Garrett, and Drew Smith of West Frankfort; sister-in-law and husband, Linda (Lingle) and Wayne Wyant of West Frankfort. A private memorial service will be held. Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
