BENTON -- William "Bill" Leslie Kolk, 31, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. Services will be at noon Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home, 31 Memorial Drive, in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home. Bill was born Sept. 15, 1981, at Scott AFB. He attended high school in O'Fallon and was currently enrolled at Rend Lake Community College. He was an avid sports fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Blues and Rams. He also followed Illini basketball and football programs, though his sister, Melissa, tried to convert him to become a Jayhawk fan. Survivors include his parents, Richard and Debbi Kolk of Benton; sisters, Melora Mahan of Grand Island, Neb., and Melissa Whedon of Lawrence, Kan.; brother, Allen Callahan of San Antonio; grandmother, Marge Lavender of Hurst; nieces, Brette, Hailey, Victoria, Nancy and Aislyn; nephews, Noah and Xander; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roy Lavender; grandmother, Ina Callahan; and great-grandmother, Ethel Prewitt. Bill was loved by those who knew him best and a friend to all. His nieces and nephews adored him; he will be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to American Diabetes Association.
