RUTHIE DID RESEARCH ON FRANKLIN COUNTY FOR SEVERAL YEARS CHRISTOPHER -- Ruthie A. Thomas, 65, passed away at 5:59 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at her home. She was born July 3, 1947, in West Frankfort, the daughter of Harry Almer and Bertha Bell (Hayse) Thomas. Most recently, her friends knew her from working at Huck's in Christopher. Before that, she worked in West Frankfort and Benton as a self-employed cosmetologist. Survivors include her daughter, Annabelle Shukites of Christopher; grandsons, Zane Vincent Shukites and Xander Roderick Shukites, both of Christopher; the grandsons' father, Phillip Shukites of Christopher; Melissa Watson of Christopher, who was like a daughter to Ruthie; Diana Dunn-Styles of Akin, who was Ruthie's best friend and caretaker; brother, Lowell Cabot Thomas and wife, Karen, of Collinsville; sister, Harriet Alma Thomas Presa and husband, Terry, of Benton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Charles Almer Thomas, Ronald Joe Thomas and John Wallace Thomas. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, in Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton with Minister John Michael Shukites officiating. There will be no visitation. Those attending the services are asked to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and will be accepted at the services.
