Saturday, February 23, 2013 in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Mabel was born on November 30, 1912 in Johnston City the daughter of Mortis and Mamie Beal. Mamie later married Melvin Wheeler. Mabel was married on August 28, 1928 to Clyde Robert Cobb. He passed away in 1983. Mabel is survived by daughters, Marcella Cobb Trapani of Phoenix, AZ, and Shirley Cobb Manier of Johnston City; daughters-in-law, Ann Cobb of Johnston City, Janice Cobb of Marion; grandchildren, Philip “Butch” Trapani, Robert Trapani, Jim Trapani, all of Phoenix, AZ, Jim Manier of Grantsburg, Brenda Manier Thebeau and husband Tim of Texico, Frances Cobb, Steve Manier, Paul Cobb and wife Misty, Debbie Cobb, Becky Cobb Crompton of Johnston City, Shannon Cobb and partner Jennifer Shiflett of Carrollton, TX, Robin Cobb Jourdan and husband Keith of Slidell, LA; great grandchildren, Lindsey Thebeau Thomas, Joshua Thebeau, Jamie Manier, James Manier Turner, Kelsey Crompton, Kaleb Crompton, Dalton Cobb, Brandy Graham, Tara Graham, Joseph Corona, Ashley Heber, and Nora Cobb. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and sons, Clyde Robert Jr., Donald Ray, Paul Dean, and Robert Patrick; sisters, Ruth Williams and Thelma Peterson. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Johnston City. She loved to cook and put her talents to work in several area restaurants including Country Kitchen, Farris Steak House, Opal’s Café and Andresen’s. She was also a cook at the Jansco Show Bar during the Minnesota Fats Pool Tournament. She was a joy to everyone she met. She was full of humorous sayings that she readily shared with others. Her most famous one being “I am as rough as a cobb”. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday February 26, 2013 at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Glen Sanders, Pastor Lee Petty and Pastor Tim Thebeau officiating. Burial will be in the Boner Cemetery of West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center or to the First Christian Church. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center for the special care given to Mabel.
