Bevis, 94, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, in Herrin Hospital. Mary was a homemaker. In her youth, she attended Rescue Freewill Baptist Church in Ewing. Mary was born May 27, 1917, in Whittington, to Alvin and Martha Miola (King) Holman. Mary was united in marriage with Byford E. Bevis on April 4, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1991. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Carlie Bevis of De Soto and Bobby Gene and Kathy Bevis of Herrin; eight grandchildren, Eddie Bevis and Brenta, Rodney Bevis and Cindy, Michael Bevis and Amy, Mark Bevis, Todd Bevis, Nicholas Bevis and Nikki, Brian G. Bevis and Brian L. Bevis; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Charles W. Bevis and Jerry Bevis; four brothers, Herbert Holman, Edgar Holman, Harold Holman and Stanley Holman; and three sisters, Daisy Holland, Nova Rice and Amy Johnston. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment will be in Williams Chapel Cemetery in Ewing. HERRIN - Kathy Ann Bevis, 57, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in Herrin Hospital. She was born to Kenneth and Mildred (McDowell) Rushing on Sept. 13, 1955, in Herrin. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Bevis of Herrin; three great-nephews, Cade and Carter Garris of Herrin and Chase Garris of Canton; three godchildren, Kelli Dwyer of St. Louis, Michael Dwyer of Richmond, Va., and Kiereney Dwyer of Belleville; one brother, the Rev. Bruce Rushing of Canton; two aunts, Barbara Giffin and Mary and Bob Phillips, all of Metropolis; two uncles, Raymond and wife, Jean McDowell, of Bradley and Johnny and wife, Carolyn McDowell, of Bandana, Ky. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Gabriel Angel. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Memorials can be made to Upward Program, c/o First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bevis worked at Center for Medical Arts in Carbondale. Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in Van Natta Funeral Home at 427 S. Park Ave. in Herrin with the Rev. Ed Hoke officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
