ROYALTON - Anna M. (Savka) Largay, 81, of Bath, Maine, formerly of Royalton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine, surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of John and Mary Savka, Anna was born Aug. 16, 1931, in Royalton. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Royalton High School in 1949 and received a full scholarship to Southern Illinois University. She later graduated from St. Louis City Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She married Richard J. Largay on Sept. 3, 1955, and moved to Bath, where they have lived for the last 56 years and raised four children. Anna was an active member of All Saints Parish-St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Bath for 56 years and served as bookkeeper for her husband's dentistry and orthodontic practice. She was a faithful soul, wonderful wife, devoted mother and exceptional grandmother to five very fortunate grandchildren. In addition to God and family, Anna enjoyed cooking, ironing, politics, playing slots and the Boston Red Sox. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Richard J. Largay of Bath; son, Charles and his wife, Maureen, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; daughters, Teresa and her husband, David Chabot, and Mary and her husband, Gregory Penk, all of Westbrook, Maine, and Anne Marie and her husband, Brent Poulin, of Scarborough, Maine; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Chabot, Richard and Andrew Penk and Margaret and Samuel Poulin; and four brothers, John of Pekin, George and his wife, Lynda, of Royalton, Frank and his wife, Sharon, of West Frankfort and Andy and his wife, Kathy, of Wood Dale. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Richard Largay; and siblings, Charles Savka and Mary Savka. The family would like to thank Drs. Sarah Ketchum and Rhonda Kroll and the staff at Mercy Oncology-Hematology and Falmouth Internal Medicine and Dr. Fred Aronson and staff of Maine Center for Cancer Medicine for the care and support Anna received during her illness. A Mass of Christian burial was Jan. 26, in St. Mary Church in Bath with the Rev. Normand Carpentier officiating. A reception was in the church hall.
