Charles Eugene Davis, 82, of Mt. Vernon, IL, died at 8:05 p. m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Franklin Hospital in Benton. Mr. Davis was born on December 23, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, IL the son of Harold Davis and Thelma (Dare) Davis. He married the former Evelyn Louise Williams and she survives. Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid race car fan, antique collector and loved to travel. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran of the Korean War. Surviving relatives include his wife, Evelyn Davis, Mt. Vernon, IL, a son, Dennis (Jackie) Minor, West Frankfort, IL, three daughters, Vicki (Don) Hitz, Homer, MI, Shelley Ingram, Benton, IL, Sandy Davis, Florida, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a nephew, Darrell Davis, Mt. Vernon, IL. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darrell Davis. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton. A memorial service will be held at 8:00 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Father Joseph Trapp officiating.
