Obit: Tuesday;11/23/1982Benton Evening NewsBenton, Franklin Co., ILMrs Martha Jane Talley, 83, of 622 Joplin Street, Benton, died Monday at Franklin Hospital.Mrs. Talley was a native of Kentucky, born August 14, 1899, to Henry and Mollie McFadden Brown. She was a member of the North McLeansboro Street Church of God in Benton.She is survived by nine daughters and a son, Leoma Wiggins, Paragould, AR; Louella Summers, Zeigler; Elizabeth Joplin, Bellwood; Mary Sell, Carolyn Doxzie and Billie Burton, all of Benton; Lavaughn Overturf, Buckner; June Hungate, Patterson; Linda Melvin, Logan and Peter Talley, Benton. She also leaves 30 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; four great great, grandchildren, and two brothers, Newt Shepherd, Tampa, FL and Joe Sheperd, Jackson, MI. Mrs Talley was the widow of James Talley, who died in 1967, she was preceded in death by a son James "Tuck" Talley in 1973, and her parents. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:30 AM at the North McLeasnsboro Street. NOTE: LF. Mother's maiden name is probably not McFadden. A retired coal miner, Mr. Talley formaly worked at Peabody 18 mine. He leaves his wife, Martha Jane Brown Talley; 11 children: Mrs Leama Wiggins, Florida, Mrs Lou Ella Summers, Zeigler; ; Mrs. Elizabet Joplin, Chicago; Mrs Mary Sell, Hobard, Indiana; Mrs Levaughn Overturf, Buckner; Mrs. June Hungate, Godfrey; Mrs. Linda Melvin, Logan; James E. Talley, Mrs Billie Cummings, Pete Talley, and Mrs. Carolyn Doxsie all of Benton; 28 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a brother, Sam Talley, of Owensboro, KY.Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Poulson-Freeman Funeral Home in Benton, with the Reverend Stanley Joplin officiating.Interment will be in Masonic and Old Fellow Cemetery.The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today A Tribute published in the pages of Southern Illinois Murphysboro, IL May 6, 1985Bellwood - Martha Elizabeth "Lizzie" Joplin, 63, of 223 S. 30th Street, Bellwood, died Saturday, May 4, 1985. Mrs. Joplin was born January 10, 1922 the daughter of James and Martha J. Brown Talley. Survivors include her husband, Eugene "Gene", a son David Gene of Bellwood; two daughters, Kayetta Brown of Charleston, W. VA., and Joyce Zetscher of Bellwood; four Grandchildren; a brother, Pete Talley of Benton; and eight sisters, Linda Melvin of Logan, Carolyn Doxise, Billie Burton and Mary Sell, all of Benton; June Hungate of Roodhouse, Lavaughn Overturf of Buckner, Louella Summers of Zeigler and Leoma Wiggins of Paragould, AR. One brother preceded her in death. Services will be at 1PM, Wednesday at Pouison Funeral Home in Benton. Burial will be in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery.
