    3. Register-News, Mt Vernon IL, Mon 23 Mar 1998 CLIFTON KING (includes photo) Clifton L. KING, 76, of Mt. Vernon died the morning of March 22, 1998, at his home. Mr. KING was a contractor. Born Aug. 27, 1921, in Frisco, he was a son of Dan and Laura (LOVIN) KING. He married Ruby HEFNER Nov. 8, 1945, in Benton and she survives. As per his wishes, Mr. King's body will be cremated. There will be graveside services held at Smith's Veteran's Cemetery at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Wednesday. The Rev. Merritt STRICKLAND will officiate. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Osborn Funeral Home of Dix is (in) charge of the arrangements. Mr. KING was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Family Worship Center, the Moose Lodge of Mt. Vernon and the VFW Post 1376 of Mt. Vernon. Survivors include his wife, Ruby KING of Mt. Vernon; sons Terry KING and wife Donna of Atlanta and Jerry KING of Sandoval; a daughter, Marilyn ALLEN and husband Rick of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, the Rev. Byford J. KING of Elgin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and five brothers. Memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center in Marion and will be received at the Osborne Funeral Home in Dix. >From undated obit (abt 1955) in scrapbook of my grandmother, Birdie WARREN ODLE BIRTHS (per newspaper clipping) Twin sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Clifton KING of 1112 south 21st street at Jefferson Memorial Hospital early this morning. The first was born at 12:45 a.m. and weighed four pounds, 13 and one-half ounces. The second was born at 12:58 a.m. and weighed four pounds 15 and one-fourth ounces.
