William Alva “Giz” Overton, 67, of Sesser, died at 7:15 p. m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at his home. Mr. Overton was born on July 19, 1945 in Sesser, IL the son of Thomas Overton and Betty (Cameron) Overton. He married the former Janice Miller from Scheller on April 26, 1968 and she survives. Giz was retired from the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad and served his country as a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Sesser and enjoyed welding and woodworking. Vernon, IL, David (Heather) Overton, Sesser, IL, sixteen grandchildren, Courtney Edelman, Austin Edelman, Hunter Edelman, Michael Miller, Haley Miller, Brittnie Barker, Madison Montgomery, Jake Overton, Trenton Gibson, Charlize Overton, Jennifer Overton, Alyssa Ellison, Thomas Overton, Debra Overton, Nicholas Overton, Tyler Overton, twelve siblings, Elizabeth Bassett, Sesser, IL, Eileen Montgomery, Phoenix, AZ, Lydia Brust, Bowling Green, KY, Jean Keith, Zeigler, IL, Ernie Overton, Mt. Vernon, IL, Howard Overton, Coello, IL, Tom Overton, Sesser, IL, Curt Overton, Coello, IL, Carl Overton, Sesser, IL, Mary Conley, Bowling Green, KY, Jim Overton, North Carolina, Doug Overton, Sesser, IL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Overton was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Billy Overton, and a brother, Michael Overton. Giz’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Church of Christ in Sesser with Bob White officiating. Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton is in charge of arrangements.
